These are the ins and outs. Says he was released. The cricinfo page on him says he has been on one year contracts for the past six years, so it's not unusual to be out of contract. Article below says he intends carrying on.

Last year was a noteworthy decline in his productivity. I remember seeing a picture of him and he looked less than athletic. He will be 47 next month.... I think there is no disrespect in him walking away, even if its forced through lack of interest.

Doesnt change the fact his career has been quite mind-boggling. Not only in his all-round output, but the sheer longevity.

Kent rarely picked him for the CC last year once it became clear he was a spent force. Remarkable career though... fair play to him
