the game really hates people who try to sneak batsman in as keepers.

just a shame that real cricket doesn't follow the same logic

I found that if you had a batsman with keeper secondary, if you keep playing them as keeper they eventually get better. But they'll spill a lot on the way, it's not generally worth it.

my worry is that my first match is away in India, so if I select 2 spinners for that, will the auto part of the game carry on selecting 2 spinners for a test match played somewhere less conducive to spin

I have weak spinners, but I'm strong in snarling pacemen. I'm trying to imagine the carnage if the game only selected 2 pace men plus Kallis, if my second game should happen to be against Aus at the WACA

My team would get monstered in that scenario

Interesting about the algorithm about player quality. In early versions of the game, I think for a lot of players like the SL ones, the developers didn't know too much about them so assigned quality ranks based on their FC averages. Given the SL league's quality and dust bowl pitches, FC averages for spinners were ludicrously good compared to their test performances in reality (just look at Thilan Samaraweera's career bowling record for an example), but the game reckoned that FC averages were predictive of test average...

In an interesting quirk, I once had a game where Ian Bell was my best ODI allrounder. I turned to him to bowl in desperation in a game due to injury to my main bowlers, he took a fluke hat trick, then from that point the game decided that he was a decent ODI bowler - often went for a few, but consistently got me 2-3 wickets a match. Weird.

I just downloaded cricket captain 2019 but I can't work out how to play - it won't let me select any players and I've no idea what mode I'm supposed to be playing - I tried international career and also India

I think I'll just pick a team!

The kid is too young to know most of the old players so I guess I'll be helping him - he can have India for official purposes to keep him happy!
