The Alphabet Game

Ok so have been tossing this around in my head for a while.

When I used to work in the glamorous world of the Next stockroom I invented a game where every day we had to make the strongest football eleven we could using players whose surnames all began in the same letter.

I have been thinking about how we could translate that to here so it will go like this. Every Sunday will be a new letter. I will suggest two shoe-ins. Everyone else has the rest of the week to populate the rest of the team.

The rules are it must be a functioning team. This means there must be a Spinner and a wicketkeeper in each team and there should be a realistic balance between bat and ball.

This might die a death and it may be in the wrong section of the forum but here goes......A

1. Mike Atherton
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.
9. James Anderson
10.
11.

A might be a tough one. B should be easier.

Are we talking world players in any format. And Asian players who are popularly known by their first name, like Aravinda de Silva or Aamer Sohail?

Anyway, I'll add Mohammad Amir, probably at nine, and move Anderson down one.

Might be Ashton Agar isn't good enough to get in, but keep him in mind.

And Keith Andrews as keeper.

Yes, leave Amir and Anderson out, bring in Akram and Ambrose. Probably have Asif, Akram and Ambrose as the pace attack.

Ajmal? Hmm.

Amiss is a must. I can see Athers not being good enough for this team.

Alderman should be ahead of Anderson and Amir too, depends if you want four seamers.
