4 match test series, so that'll be 3 weeks of crossover, with something daft like a couple of days between tests. (once upon a time a 4 test series would have taken 7 weeks)

feels unnatural only having 4 south players

In my view the north has overtaken the south in the last two or three years when it comes to t20 - after about a decade of the south comfortably being superior.

That said, this unique situation of the England limited-overs only players being available for most (all?) the competition does probably strengthen the south slightly more. Off the top of my head: Roy, Morgan, Billings, Jordan, I can see having a bigger overall impact than the Yorkshire trio of Willey, Rashid and Plunkett, plus Hales (and Buttler, if he doesn't get a test call up).
