47 top 4 are outstanding but 57's bowlers and middle order make them favourites in my book.

Not many of those bowlers are still known. The 27 batting is impressive, but who are those bowlers? The 37 batting looks good, but at least I've heard of of Goddard, Gover and Robins among the bowlers.
Perhaps Freeman.
And Verity in 47. And Farnes and Voce.
Anyway, 1937 for me. I've just checked and England played two Tests in 1927! Both in SA. They played no home Tests. Amazing. Hammond made his debut. England won them both though. Geary took twelve wickets.

Jesus, really going back some now...know the batsmen on both sides, less familair with the bowling attacks of both, gonna have to do some research here i think..
