in the Crabtree household only, I believe - or is it just in your head?

I have always seen it as Arthur's attempt to get under my skin (which is a crap place to be, let me tell you).

Counts so far (reserve picks in brackets), from 12 entries.

Root: 9 (2)
Smith: 9 (1)
Starc: 8 (2)
Warner: 8 (1)
Hazlewood: 7(2)
Bairstow: 3
Ali: 2 (3)
Khawaja 2 (2)
Bancroft: 2 (2)
Cummins: 2
Woakes: 1 (3)
Lyon: 1 (3)
Overton: 1
Stokes: 1
Marsh: 1
Broad: 1
Stoneman: 1
Paine: 1
Anderson: (2)
Handscomb:(1)

Five overwhelmingly popular picks with good reason. Joe Root comes out top (just) with only one person (me) not including him as at least a reseve. Then it's Aussie all the way down, with only Bairstow and Ali getting any level of endorsement. No love for the England bowlers, or for England's new faces. Cummins perhaps less popular than expected, but despite his potential he's still an unknown quantity. Even Shaun Marsh, Tim Paine and Craig Overton are in with one pick each. Perhaps therefore most surprising it's a big fat duck for former England captain Alistair Cook, despite his 2010-11 heroics, his last double century just three games ago and an average of 44 in 2017. A rerun of 2013-14 is predicted to be on the cards for the Chef, it seems.

Of course there is still 48 hours for this to change.

Anderson feels the best long shot out of the bottom half of that. He did well in the warm ups (such as they were) and had sensational stats last summer.

Somebody's got to take wickets for England. Even in the 2013-14 debacle, Broad took 21 and was third on the wicket-taker list (outperforming Siddle and Lyon by the numbers). Unless you believe that every game will be an innings win where Australia rack up 515-4, Australian wickets will fall, so someone will get the points.
