why on earth don't they announce these things before the blasted competitions start?

it's like bloody Hastings announcing his retirement from everything except T20 the day after the Aussie domestic season started.

although now that I've seen the reason why, I feel a bit churlish.

He may play some part yet, though. Seemingly his missus wants him to, and Perth are short on batsmen after having most of their top order called up for the ashes.

I'm keeping a very close eye on Weatherald for further evidence of Red's time machine. his record last year was 117 runs @ 16's and 5 catches

now that Red has picked him he'll probably score 100 off 44 balls in his first game

he doesn't appear to bowl either, so he'll probably pick up a 5fer too
