I am always pleasantly surprised at how fair the points system is. The fact we have only had one player on the top of our weekly league twice (Shakib Al Hasan) is testament to how it highlights the truly outstanding performers of the week. We have also seen it throw up some rather unusual players for credit. This week is one of those weeks. Simon Harmer delivered almost the perfect game for the Warriors against the Dolphins in the Sunfoil Series this week. He grabbed points in every category with the exception of bonus points for runs and for strike rate. His 12 wickets in one game has seen him beat Sunil Narine's highest points score for one week and has also seen him go from a relatively creditable 9th position to third place overall - over such high flyers as Rashid Khan and the aforementioned Sunil Narine.

When it comes to T20 season few players utilise their time better than Narine. The PSL is the first big tournament of 2018 and the spinner has swung into T20 form without pause. Building up on his form for Trinidad and Tobago, he has now joined up with Lahore Qalanders and registered a top ten score in his first two games despite the fact that his team have lost their two opening games. Thus far in the year, Narine has picked up the bulk of his points with the ball but now he is in T20 mode his batting has adjusted accordingly - most notably in his ten ball 28 that earned him 68 points alone. If he matches his bowling form for T&T with that explosive batting he could push himself into the top three overall after passing the 1000 point score this week.

Even with his good start to the year, Kane Williamson is in a world of bother with the bat. He started the year with two weeks in second position lagging behind, first, Jos Buttler and, then, JP Duminy. Since then his poor form has seen him drop week by week. He has now registered single figure scores in 7 of his last 8 games and has an average for February of 17.7. This has seen him struggle to regain his position in the top ten of our overall league. Currently sitting 12th, he is 60 points off Aaron Finch in tenth. With a series of ODI matches against England on the table he will be hoping to turn his form round or face a further embarrassing slip down the league.

Before this week Nathan Lyon and Steve Smith did not have a lot to crow about. Lyon had suffered a bit of a pasting playing for the Prime Minister's XI against England whilst Smith was second bottom in the table ahead of only Jeetan Patel. This week they have played a warm up game against South Africa A and - without setting the world alight - they have performed comfortably. Lyon's economy was flawless and, whilst he only got one wicket, he seemed to limit the team well - with the exception of one dubious over. Smith's scores were also not overly gargantuan, scoring 23 and 25, however his strike rate in the second innings was 192.3 and his mystery spin brought the house down around South Africa A in their second innings. Lyon's 173 points sees his slide out of the top ten arrested and he now sits in eight place whilst his skipper leap frogs a number of players to move him well away from the foot of the table and alongside his compatriot David Warner.

He is tenacious - we will give him that. Facing mounting criticism regarding his captaincy, dropped from the one Day team and usurped at the top of the overall table, JP Duminy had his second best week of 2018 and sits second behind Harmer in this week's top point scorers. His back to back half centuries sees him up one place on our overall league - 41 points behind Kohli. Duminy is now expected to return to domestic cricket where he thrived whereas Kohli seems to have nothing on this week. Dare he dream?

cheers Prof

If I ever get both of my players playing in the same week, I might be dangerous.

Jeets is having a rest ahead of a (hopefully) stellar county season, but I'm hoping he'll be back for the Plunkett shield run in which starts again soon

Re: 2018 All Year Fantasy Competition

I have had to delve into some more obscure cricketing territories this week to locate the best performances from our top Cricketers. With only England and New Zealand completing games from the top teams, we have had to rely on some unusual games and domestic tournaments for our big hitters. First to Perth, where our top scoring cricketer of the week, Aaron Finch, seemed to forget he wasn't playing limited overs cricket and scored with the pace of a speeding bullet. The Victorian Superman got his unbeaten 151 in a mere 122 balls in the win against Western Australia in the Sheffield Shield. In a week where he said he has aspirations of returning to the national team, he has done himself no harm and finds himself on the brink of being the seventh player in our league to break the thousand point barrier.

Yes, his week has been modest in comparison to recent weeks but over in Zimbabwe, Rashid Khan has done enough to secure himself second spot for the week and, more importantly, overtake three other players to take pride of place in the overall top point scorers. This comes in the same week where it was announced he will become the youngest cricketer to captain a national side when his team take part in the World Cup Qualifiers. These Qualifiers see Khan face up against teams such as Scotland and Hong Kong so, with Kohli not playing and Duminy appearing sporadically for Islamabad United, we may see the Afghanistan spinner pull away from the pack.

Here we can return to more high profile cricketing venues and compare the performances of Jos Buttler and Kane Williamson. Buttler finds himself sixth in our overall table and has been quietly plugging away with fairly regular weekly scores in the three figures. This week it has been his strike rate that has caught the eye; he has scored 36 off 30 and 29 off 31 against New Zealand. Whilst we all know Buttler is capable of big hitting, it has not been hugely prevalent in his game of late. He is putting this right now. Could he, like Finch, see a return to Test cricket?

Williamson is another player who is settling scores. Last week I said he needed some big performances to push his way into the top ten. I also said that he was having a torrid February. New Zealand seem to have solved this problem and took decisive action, dropping him for the February 28th game only for him to return on March 3rd a new man. His 112* may not have won the game for his team but saw him squeak above Ravi Ashwin into tenth place. The next player in his sights is Nathan Lyon, who is doing well against South Africa, so he needs to ensure his March form continues in the two ODIs coming up this week.

As one Cricketer's luck changes positively, we see two Cricketers whose luck appears to be on a reverse trajectory. Ravi Jadeja, who at one point looked capable of doing a Sunil Narine and spurting up the table, has been underwhelming for a number of weeks now. Despite Saurashtra reaching the final of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, the bowler has not been trusted with the ball since February 11th and his batting performances have been underwhelming. He appears rooted near the bottom of the table and, when the Australians and South Africans cash in their points for the First Test, will be second bottom only to (all together now) Jeetan Patel.

He was once jostling for position with our new overall leader Rashid Khan but young English bowler Jofra Archer has now been ruled out of the PSL with a side strain. With perennial injury plagued players like Tymal Mills looming large in our mind we hope that Archer will not be one of these players who burns out. One thing that we can be sure of is that he is going to remain on his overall total of 550 and drop down the table.

A week where if you had any players playing at all you did well. Those most effected were Red Devil Jr and Sr as well as FTS whose duos are both Australian or South African and therefore in a non completed game. the good news for me is that Harmer already has 250 odd points in the bank for next week after taking another 5fer in the first innings of his sunfoil match. Can he take another in the second half?
