Not quite sure where this comes from (possibly USA?) but Thursday/Friday sees players want to make the cut, Saturday 'move' into position to challenge for the title on Sunday. Some tournaments set their courses set up on Saturdays in ways that makes scoring easier, thus allowing more people to try to get into contention from further back in the field.
