imagine if he scores 65 points and doesn't make it to the final?

a quick glance tells me that Wade scored 68 or more, 6 times in 14 matches, although he did score 65 in his last match as well..... so he is likely to score the points Ian needs in approx half of his matches in this BBL
Just as well that there are 2 semi's, because if it was a qualilimifier, he'd only have the final to score them in
3 KO matches spread over 4 days. I still think the T20 Blast finals day is the right idea for this format

Probably only works so well as we're a very small country. Can't imagine the Heat, Sixers, Scorchers & Hurricanes in a finals day at the MCG.

the big ponce!
I'd started to think that he'd become such a poor player... all rep, with nothing much to back it up... that he could never sting me again, but it seems he still has the capability to pull the occasional one out of the bag, just to remind himself that he's still relevant... very occasionally! Soon he'll be making a career out of one performance per competition like Chris Gayle, or one performance every 4 years like Kevin O'Brien or Carlos Brathwaite

worth noting that Stoinis missed 3 matches whilst away on Australia duty, yet is still in second place on the board

so did I, but I suppose that's why the Hurricanes were knocked out. Their top scoring home bankers failed to turn up when it mattered.

that is six times out of the eight editions of the BBL that the top-ranked team gets knocked out first final.
Just so long as one of the two teams that plays tonight wins on Sunday.

I've made this point before, about all sorts of tournaments, but the teams who stroll into these ko matches often fall prey to sides that come up on the outside late in the day. Demonstrates how important momentum can be, which is why i dislike the idea of these elimifying qualinators, because it seems to me that the teams who play the best cricket throughout a tournament (whilst financially rewarded) are placed at a distinct playing disadvantage. That teams seem perfectly happy to accept financial reward over competitive advantage says a lot to me about cricket in the modern world
