This is now the official thread for this year's competition

Batting

1 point for every run scored
A batsman scoring 50 will receive a 20pt bonus, with another 10pts for every further 50 runs scored
(ie. 50 = 20pts, 100 = 30pts, 150 = 40pts, 200+= 50pts)
A batsman scoring at least 20 runs, will receive.....
10 bonus pts for scoring at a strike rate of 80-99
20 bonus pts for scoring at a strike rate of 100-149
30 bonus pts for scoring at a strike rate of 150-199
40 bonus pts for scoring at a strike rate of 200+

Bowling
20pts per wicket
20 bonus pts for a 3fer
30 bonus pts for a 5fer
A bowler who has bowled at least 3 overs will receive.....
10 bonus pts for an economy rate of <=6.0
20 bonus pts for an economy rate of <=5.0
30 bonus pts for an economy rate of <=4.0
(ie. an ER of 4.25 scores 20pts)

Fielding
10 points per catch or stumping
20 points per run out, or 10 points each, if two players share the responsibility
10 bonus points for 3 contributions with catches, stumpings or run outs.

I have conducted the random draw of the names.....written on pieces of paper.....in a glass.....just like the National Lottery do and the order is as below:

Ian
DFM
Andy
Arthur
Dr Cricket
GG-AS
Red Devil
SussexPob
Alviro
Red Devil Jnr.
The Professor
Meninblue

........

This does cause a slight issue as I am waiting for Ian to get back to me on an issue. I am also waiting for RD and RDJ's list of five.

When Ian gets back to me I will post as many selections as I can but we are all ready to go apart from those two administrative issues.

Keep your eyes peeled.

First pick - pressure on!

First up is Ian who out of his selection of any player in the world of cricket plumps for the highest placed discard – Jeetan Patel.

Durham has retained his 2018 player, Simon Harmer, which means he gets his first pick in the draft, Pakistan’s Mohammad Abbas. DFM therefore is the first player with his full allocation for 2019: Harmer and Abbas.

Then we move on to Andy who gets his first choice pick, West Indies’ Shai Hope.

Arthur is next up who has picked another discarded player - England captain Joe Root.

Dr Cricket is next to pick and selects a young man who many people were wary of last year but is now more tempting- namely England’s Ben Stokes.

After that GG-AS has his first and only pick and selects Jack Leach. The England and Somerset spinner is added to his retained player – Rashid Khan. GG is complete.

Then comes Red Devil…and there gentlemen we must take a (dramatic) sabbatical as we await RD’s list. I will PM him post haste.

This means that at the interval everyone gets their first pick and the team’s read thusly.

Ian
Jeetan Patel

DFM
Simon Harmer
Mohammad Abbas

Andy
Shai Hope

DC
Ben Stokes

GG-AS
Rashid Khan
Jack Leach

Forgot to mention that GG's first pick was Abbas too so we had to go to his second choice.

I looked at him as well, but if he's not playing for Pakistan this week, will there be other matches when he's left out too?

My calculation was that he's signed for a full season for Leics, with no tests for Pakistan in that period. I fancy him to take loads and loads of wickets in the CC. Any games for Pakistan outside of the CC I see as a bonus

time will tell if my calculations are right, of course

I released Virat Kohli so that others could pick him, but it seems no one selected. If i had known that no one wants him, i would have retained him.Surprised too see him go unsold in auction.

Yes, i did see that, but still 5 new names / transfers of players. Moreover, he is already in 4th spot of 2018 FL, and all 3 above him are bowlers. Thought he would be surely in top 5 buys at least, especially with 5 points per maiden over being removed.

A bowler who can take two 5 wicket hauls in one test in desert will surely rock in county cricket. Even if one drop of rain falls on wickets in county pitches, he will wreak havoc. :laugh Thanks to Inzi, he is in C level contract and has Hasan Ali, Shady, Amir and Yasir over him and A and B groups. Yasir does deserves in same group as Abbas though. Pak are not playing any test until October iirc, so he will surely play full county season as he isn't near the ODI or T20i squad.
