Being called the " Birmingham Beats" in the Blast is no picnic either! Actually I don't mind.

well... it is important to accept that the ECB don't have an original thought in their heads. They can't call it the Big Bash, because that's been done before, so they go for the Big Blast instead. (it may not be 'big' atm, but it will soon morph into it)

Oh goodness.... I've just had a horrible thought...... what if Danny Morrison or Ravi *modded* Shastri get roped in to commentate for Sky, talk utter sh1te and shamlessly plug Big Blast sponsors? :scared

I think the more stupid a name you give to a T20 competition the more appropriate it is. T20 Blast fits the bill well enough.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

It wasnt good enough that they created the T20 concept, they are unoriginal because they copied the name of it from somewhere?

Well the ECB can get lucky once in a blue moon, SP. Even the original T20 concept, wasn't particularly original. club cricketers and village cricketers had been playing the game for years before the ECB picked up the ball and ran with it. I guess that all the ECB had to do was dust off the format, tweak a couple of things, stick it in a shiny green folder and present it to the world.

They deserve credit for that, btw, but I'll stand by my assertion that they haven't got an original thought in their heads.

Churlish of me, I know.

Don't like the new format at all - 14 games played across two and a half months, yet they are crammed next to County Championship games. Players barely have any time to recover let alone prepare between formats.

Expect the standard of both County Championship and Twenty20 to drop because of this, I preferred it when T20 matches were played in a window.

"They took all our players away, banned our captain and we still came away with a ten-wicket victory" Jason Gillespie

I find the name "Big Bash" to be quite cringeworthy, Blast is a slight improvement. That's not saying much though.

I kind of like the name "Big Bash," because really, that's what T20 cricket is, a big bash.

With The Hundred looming, I think it's amusing to look back on this thread from the early days of the (now generally appreciated) Blast.
"It has been said of the unseen army of the dead, on their everlasting march, that when they are passing a rural cricket ground the Englishman falls out of the ranks for a moment to look over the gate and smile."

Since reading this (and close on six years), my view has moderated. Maybe not cringeworthy. Unsatisfactory, but not cringeworthy.

rather than the cricket 'blasting out' it sort of coughs and splutters a bit before dribbling out at a very unsatisfactory rate.... probably into a chipped cup. And the sky dribbles all the time too, which is why very nearly a quarter of all matches were abandoned without a ball bowled.

The Hundred probably has very little to beat
