Caribbean Premier League 2014

Postby mikesiva » Tue Mar 11, 2014 11:11 am

Now that there's no BPL this year, the number of overseas applicants for the CPL has increased....

http://cplt20.com/news/228-players-conf ... 2014-draft

"The Caribbean Premier League has confirmed that an impressive 228 players have registered for the 2014 Draft, which will take place in Kingston, Jamaica, on Thursday 3rd April. The number includes 121 overseas players, more than five times the number that entered the 2013 draft. Over 100 Caribbean players have thrown their hats into the ring in the hope of earning a contract to take part in the “Biggest Party in Sport”, alongside a host of international stars....Australia will have the largest overseas contingent in the Draft with thirty names, including fifteen internationals, while the vast majority of Pakistan’s T20 World Cup squad has also signed up. New Zealand, South Africa and Sri Lanka are also well represented, and the Draft will include several current and former international captains, leading test stars, T20 specialists and limited overs legends. The full list of players will be announced to the public week commencing Monday 17th March."

"The excitement and anticipation surrounding the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) hit a new level today with the news that Kevin Pietersen is set to take part in the 2014 tournament. The show-stopping batsman – who is England’s all-time leading run scorer in international cricket and is set to captain the Delhi Daredevils in this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL) – will be a star attraction for franchises when the Draft takes place in Jamaica on Thursday 3rd April."

St Lucia Zouks all the way for obvious reasons :)

Antigua make 136-8...a par score. There were 30s from Dunk and Hyatt, while Neesham took 3-33. Narine bowled four overs for just three runs!
Guyana win by two wickets with three balls to spare...a close finish for the first match. Ramdin hit 51 from 36 balls, while Hafeez chipped in with 35, against Cottrell's 3-24.

Charles easily stumped for 27...that's basically what we should expect from him.

miller four overs 1-11.

Davids out for a well played 56 from 38....

great work by vettori and Baugh to get rid off Fletcher for 27.

Russell strikes...lesporis and tanvir out cheaply. St Lucia 161-5 is a good total.

What an innings from Gayle! Five boundaries and 10 sixes in an innings of 111 not out from just 63 balls...

Trinidad beat Barbados with more than two overs to spare. Bim's 124 was just not enough, with only Dowrich making a score of any significance - 30-something - with Big Bravo and Kevin O'Brien taking two wickets each. Lil Bravo and Ross Taylor then hit half-centuries to knock off the target easily.

Jamaica had a comprehensive eight-wicket win over Antigua with more than five overs to spare....

Vettori took 3-13, and there were two wickets each for Russell and Jerome Taylor, as they routed Antigua for a mere 96 all out. Then, Gayle hit 37 and Walton 43 not out as Jamaica waltzed to victory.

Poor 18-year old Nicholas Pooran went from hero to zero as Guyana beat Trinidad in a Super Over, after a low-scoring, nail-biting tie in regular time in front of a bumper crowd at Providence. First, Narine took 2-13 and pacer Ronsford Beaton 2-15 to restrict Trinidad to 118-8, helped mainly by Pooran's 37 from just 17 balls, while Evin Lewis laboured to 39 off 51 balls.

Then, Guyana made 118-9 on the back of 30s from Simmons and Chris Barnwell, as Badree pegged them back with 3-18. However, they only got there when wicketkeeper Pooran dropped a winning catch off the final ball of the innings. So, it was on to the Super Over, and Barnwell got Guyana to 10-1 off Cooper's bowling, and Trinidad captain inexplicably sent the inexperienced Pooran in to open the batting against Narine, and he was understandably bamboozled, as Trinidad failed to score a single run.

Samuels in full flow is a joy to watch...84 from 54 balls, including seven boundaries and four sixes. he was supported by 30s from Ben Dunk and David Hussey, while Rampaul took 4-32 as Antigua made 172-6.

How did Antigua manage to lose that?
Shoaib Malik hit an excellent 72 from 50 balls, with four boundaries and four sixes, to set up a victory for Barbados by five wickets with four balls to spare....

Guyana destroyed St Lucia, winning by nine wickets with four overs to spare. Santokie took 4-11 to bowl St Lucia out for 117, as Tanvir topscored with 31, and then Guptill hit an unbeaten half-century to take them home....

A rusty looking Tino Best, playing his first match, was a few yards down on pace, and conceded 20 runs from his four overs.

On Sunday, Trinidad had an easy nine-wicket win with three overs to spare over Antigua, thanks to unbeaten knocks by Kevin O'Brien (90 from 49) and Ross Taylor (51 from 46). Earlier, Kevon Cooper took 3-34 to restrict Antigua to 151-8, for whom David Hussey and Devon Thomas made 30s.

In their turn at bat, Chadwick Walton hit 53 from 42 balls, and Jimmy Neesham 48, as Jamaica made a par 148-6 in front of a bumper Providence crowd in their top-of-the-table clash against Guyana, for whom pacers Ronsford Beaton and Jimmy Neesham took two wickets each. Despite being in control of the run-chase, Guyana fell four runs short on 144-2, with Lendl Simmons making 68 from 61, and Denesh Ramdin 32 retired hurt.
