T20 is a success already but only with some counties. There is very little interest up at Durham and even local derbies against Lancs & Yorks don't come anywhere near to filling the ground.

The ECB's finances are very healthy and I can understand them wanting to stop giving so much to the counties but cricket is not Premier League football or other wealthy sports. Nor will it ever be.

Due to it's proximity, Chester-Le-Street strikes me as a venue more suited to hosting Twenty20 matches on a weekend than a midweek evening. I find it surprising Twenty20 hasn't taken off in the North-East, especially when there is no summer sport in the region.

Yet all the test hosts bar one are in the top league, which suggests that having a test match is beneficial in being able to pay for quality players.

The City based franchise is raising it's head once again, thanks to the Cricinfo PR spin machine.

http://www.espncricinfo.com/county-cric ... 76907.html

If the County Championship format is going to change because of City T20, I doubt any changes will take place as soon as 2017 as the counties are preparing for a 2 up 2 down system.

I can't see how a City based T20 competition will promote new players, when 6 of 15 England's World T20 squad contain players who are playing at or have learned their trade from non-test counties.

Very levelled headed opinion offered by Surrey's Richard Thompson http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/cricke ... le-3624647

One thing I will give Surrey credit for is they have not jumped on the franchise bandwagon and have seen Twenty20 from a domestic level. Their CEO Richard Gould made similar comments on cricinfo a couple of years about about giving the current system a chance before the TV rights are up for renewal, involving all 18 counties with the option of city rebranding and reporting on the progressive growth.

Until it's put the members, and until actual proposals are put on the table, then I'm not reading much into it just yet.

If Sky get their way through (and no doubt the ECB too), then the 8 locations will be the 9 tests grounds excluding the Rose Bowl. (If I could be bothered, I'd find the Sky article from a few months back, stating that).

This will spell the end of County Cricket for many, unless the money after expenses, is divided equally between all the counties.

T20 is a cancer on real Cricket. It might be all that's left in 10 years, unless the day/night tests pick up (irony overload).

It would appear the Turkey's have voted for Christmas or at least their keepers have, Too may chairmen and CEO's are money men (the keepers) so until the members (the turkeys) have their say we can't be sure what will happen. You can be sure that most of the talk will be about money and promises that wont be kept.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.
