Worcestershire become the 7th club in favour of the new Twenty20 proposals

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/39705724

Yes: Durham, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Somerset, Sussex, Worcestershire, Yorkshire
No: Essex, Kent, Middlesex

Surprisingly Nottinghamshire seem to be quiet on the new Twenty20 tournament. Being a relatively small county with few cities/towns, I had the Trent Bridge outfit firmly in favour of a city based compeititon.

Even some of those voting no are in favour of a franchise T20 but this vote is about a change giving up a fundamental part of the constitution that binds the clubs together. The ECB claim that without this change in the constitution there can be no Franchise T20 but some recognise that such a move will increase the power of the ECB exponentially.

Amazing what promising £1.3 Million can do to clubs and the like

What's the betting that the current domestic competiions get marginalised further in order to accommodate the new City based Twenty20 competition?

It cannot fail to - unless the T20 comp fails. And the ECB can't afford that to happen.

Only 8 teams though. That is bound to alienate (I avoided using disenfranchise here) a lot of supporters.
Maybe

Which grounds will they use, clearly Lords is out because they have a restriction on using floodlights. Who will travel to watch players from other clubs and no top England test players playing. The loyal club supporters will mot travel to watch a bunch of foreign imports play 50 miles away. The success of this venture require an entirely new breed of supporter, good luck with that.

doubtless we'll be made to host them, probably made to buy them, and then be awarded a points deduction for not selling enough tickets for the tasty sounding London Lightweights -v- Manchester Red Devils in the rain on a Tuesday evening in chester le street.... probably with an extra points deduction for failing to provide an acceptable ambient temperature which is conducive to expansive cricket, for a fixture held in May, in flagrant disregard of ECB atmospheric temperature guidelines

If the ECB want cricket grounds for their City Based t20, then they should pay rent and the setup costs asscociated in venue rebranding and returning to original state of condition. Then the ECB are free to set ticket prices and other revenue streams, as well as pay for matchday running costs.

It's more cost effective long term if the T20 Blast was the flagship tournament, have it's own separate TV rights and take precedence for scheduling fixtures in the domestic schedule.

perhaps the T20 organisers will have a magic weekend style fixture which could be held at SJP for 4 consecutive years, breaking every attendance record ever achieved at any of the London or Manchester venues?

after all........ the 50 yard width of a footy pitch would not prove to be problematic in T20 cricket. I imagine the time will come when T20 cricket could be played in the centre circle of a footy pitch

St James Park has a big enough playing surface to host a cricket match (105m x 68m). Get a drop in pitch installed and jobs a good one to host Magic Blast Off Weekend.
