About 60 games, average of 26+, SR 117 HS 90.

Didn't realise his record was that bad. Needs to average much higher than that to compensate for his low strike rate.

A solid performance in Yorkshire's 1st win against Derbyshire. A shrewd move by interim skipper Kane Williamson to bring Azeem Rafiq on for two overs of the powerplay and he showed the class of old, though he and Carver in the middle overs did leak a few runs as Derbyshire made a recovery. A game where Yorkshire looked to restrict Derbyshire to sub 140, then Derbyshire nudging past 160 accompanied with some good running between the wickets, but Willey and Bresnan bowled well in the last two overs to restrict Derbyshire to 153.

The threat of rain made the run chase very intriguing, Yorkshire did keep ahead of the D/L method but it got very tight when the 2nd and 3rd wickets fell. Wayne Madsen bowling in the right areas put the Yorkshire batsmen under some pressure, but Root and Bairstow in the final few balls just got Yorkshire over the line (though at the time Root thought his single in the final ball of the 9th over wasn't enough to win on D/L where it actually was).

Would love to know how Gary Wilson keeps getting a game for Surrey. He is the worst player in county cricket by a long way.

Kent need to sort it out, those windows in the stand should be blocked in and how can you have a closed window right behind the bowlers arm?

Shoddy.

Shoddy.

The first stoppage for light was just because of the sun coming over the stand. The second one was for the window problem.

Batsmen should be forced to get on with it. No one's ever had a problem with it before at Canterbury.

The sun was coming through the stand. There are big windows in the back that allowed the light to stream through. And at the other end was a huge reflective surface, which according to reports after the game was down to sky TV. A good head groundsman would have at least spotted the latter problem and solved the problem before it became one.

Yorkshire coming out on top against the old enemy in a thrilling 5 run win that went to the penultimate ball. Both sides weakened with many players unavailable, but the intensity was not compromised as the match was played at a sold out Headingley.

Lancashire bowled rather well as a unit after getting the key wicket of Adam Lyth. Although Kane Williamson took his scoring wise, he was supported well by Jack Leaning and then upped the ante. Will Rhodes late over cameo proved to be crucial as Yorkshire posted 141 off 18 overs. First impressions it was a below par total, but the pitch was deceptively slower than it looked.

Bresnan nearly struck 1st ball, but a streaky Jordan Clark edge went between the keeper and 1st slip for four runs. Patterson and Rhodes made some early breakthroughs, aided by fantastic catching in the deep and Azeem Rafiq looked like the bowler of 2012 with some economical bowling, but the game was finely poised. Karl Carver bowled three full tosses in his 3rd over, all went for six, but got two wickets in his final two including the dangerman of Liam Livingstone. Although the Lancashire lower order were dismissed relatively swiftly, Stephen Parry displayed ability that he could get Lancashire over the line. The final over was tense, a streaky four which evaded Hodd meant Lancashire needed 5 off 3 balls, but Steven Patterson bowled a tight line, back of the length, leg cutter which edged to Hodd to cue a dramatic win for the White Rose.

Who needs franchise cricket when you have homegrown players giving it all they got under a capacity crowd of 17,000?

The return of Azeem Rafiq has been a huge boost to the team. Adam Lyth seems to attack the ball at will, Will Rhodes is morphing into a Bresnan type player, Patterson has finally taken his red ball game to the shortest format, Bresnan has a new bowling style.

Even if Yorkshire miss out on knockout qualification, just finish on a high and take the form into the Royal London One Day Cup. The squad is going to be boosted next week with Travis Head arriving ahead of schedule, along with the England players returning (though I suspect Root and possibly Bairstow will be rested).

Kent bowl 2 no balls in the final over (one for height so Claydon removed from attack) but hold on to win by 3 runs.
