In today's game the bowler Tye was awarded a hattrick by taking two wickets with the las two deliveries of one over and a third wicket with the first delivery of his next over. Which suggests the the definition of a hattrick is simply awarded when a bowler takes three wickets in three consecutive deliveries.
So I ask, is it a hattrick if a bowler takes two wickets of his final two deliveries in one game and a few days later a third wicket with his first delivery in a different game? It meets the criteria of taking three wickets in three consecutive deliveries so the answer must be yes, however to me it is nonsense, a true hatrick can only be when it occurs in the same six ball over. Otherwise you can end up with ridiculous versions i.e. a twelve month period between wickets or 2 wickets in a test match and the third against a lowly university side.

afaik it has to be in the same game to be considered a hat-trick, not 100% tho

i think merv hughes once was credited with a hat-trick in a test where his three wickets were taken in three seperate overs

he got one with his last ball of an over in the first innings, then with the first ball of his next over took the last wicket of the innings. a day or so later he got a wicket with his first delivery of the opposition's second innings.

Walsh got his hat trick in Australia in 1988 in similar circumstances I believe.

Quite enjoying this comp I have to say

Been watching the highlights of most of the games

I much prefer it to the Ipl because the boundaries are actually a good size at most grounds

Tye's hat trick didn't involve getting out a batsman first ball. Can't happen too often. Usually at least one.

Nope. A great run chase by the 'Canes.

The T20 version of SA/Aus 50/50 in Joburg all those years ago.

How did Renegades lose that?

Perera should seriously give up on bowling. Went for 59 in 4 overs but still wasn't their most expensive bowler!

Bell top scores with 61 on Perth debut.

I am so pleased to see Perth doing well. My aunt and her family have lived there for the past two decades so I have always had a soft touch for them. If only they had picked a west Indian.

there has been some discussion over whether the promotion of Andrew Tye was a tactical masterstroke from Langer or just that he was the only one with his pads on at the time. I think he was sent out as a night watchman to try and get the scorchers to the half way mark without loss, knowing that they had Turner, Agar, and Brezza to try and post a reasonable total in the second half of the innings.

He did a great job, and this has been a decent recovery from Perth under the circumstances. Whether it will be enough remains to be seen, but they have given themselves, perhaps not half a chance, but something to bowl at, at least
