What is difference between today and tomorrow's auction....or is there none?

Tomorrow remaining players will be auctioned- those whose names were not taken today. After all players names have been taken in 1st round, those players who did not get a bid (Gayle,Joe,Guptill,Amla,Jonny,Johnson etc) in first round will be considered for second round. In this round the franchisees are asked to submit names of players they want to bid to. Others are ignored and their names are not taken in second round.

I think Joe is going into auction first time. Like some others have realized, lower the base price, get into the auction on the lower price basis and then let the bidding war do the trick.

Having a higher base price in IPL is okay if someone has been performing in IPL and in form as well as young enough for next 3 years.

Joe can get a bid tomorrow though because he can bowl spin, which will be useful. There is not enough representation of English coaches or think tank in IPL. Paddy Upton was only one I think. He has worked with some English cricketers in BPL. If he was around he could have got one or two more bids for England cricketers.

His name has not come today. He is player number 220 which will come for auction in set number 26. Lockie Ferguson is in same set. I think franchisees will be more keen to get Lockie than Tymal. Ben Laughlin, Billy Stanlake and Andrew Tye are in set 26. So money will be saved for them. I speculate Tymal will have to wait for 2nd auction or will be sold at base price this time.

Trent Boult is in Set no 15. He will be a big buy after his recent exploits against WI and PAK.

Also in set 24, Chris Jordan will come

Don't think franchisees will get into bidding war for Tymal tomorrow. His performance has been flop last year. So other options are very likely to be preferred.

Jordan has base price of 1 crore. Tymal 1 crore. Boult 1.5 CR, Tye 1 cr. They are more likely to be bought even at higher than base price.

Well summarised, though I am not sure how much lower Root can go with his base price because he has to forfeit a percentage of his earnings to the ECB. For example it cost Ben Stokes £100k out of his ECB contract.

International T20 performances Root has delivered in the big matches and IMO a better bat than Kane Williamson who went for 300 lakh.

A lot of Indian fans are saying what you said. Joe should have been picked ahead of Kane . Kane though played some match winning knocks last year for SRH. SRH have ensured their top 3 is intact this season as well.

If Joe has to pay ECB some amount then he he is correct at ensuring he earns more than what he will pay ECB. Bit does he really have to pay 1 cr for around 14 matches.

Best article I can find on England players reimbursing the ECB or counties, depending on contract.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/cricket/2017 ... ipl-wages/

Stokes paid back £75,000 in earnings, Root would pay similar as he is also a multi format player for England. If Root went for his 200 lakh base rate, earnings wise he would pick up the equivalent of an extra months wage after deductions.

ECB central test contracts are worth in the region of £700k as a basic salary, where as an ODI central contract is approx £190k. I suppose when the next ICC future tours programme kicks in, Root will eventually gets his IPL contract presuming England play no international cricket in May.
