which England boys remain unsold?

I know about Root and Morgan. Haven't seen anything about YJB. I think Jordan got a gig, not sure about Billings

good experience for Woody... if he actually gets a game

England unsold : Alex , Jonny, Joe, Tymal Mills, Morgan, Tom Curran, Rashid, David Willey, Ravi, Finn, Gurney,Samit, Plunkett, Denly, Helm, David Malan.

Some franchisee in 2nd or 3rd auction had requested to get David Willey in auction during accelerated round. But I think they could bid successfully for similar role player, so Willey remained unsold.

Billings was sold in 3rd auction round. He was part of DD last year. He is a floater option. Has experience of batting in Asia due to IPL and probably BPL as well. So good backup option for foreign batter.

Think I read somewhere that next year the IPL will be held earlier because of the world cup, and that the England players would be pulled out even earlier than that, which may have affected the desirability of the thousands of England players who remained unsold

surprised they didn't manage to get the WC moved to some less inconvenient slot

Not aware that IPL is scheduled early in 2019.

The problem with England players is there base price. Yes some of them deserve that base price but there are better options. Some of these England players many have to consider reducing the base price. Once they get in initial bid there is chance of mini bidding war for someone like Alex Hales, Joe Root , David Willey and Tom Curran. I think when the major auction takes place next time we will see more England players as availability issues will be resolved from 2019 since new FTP.

thought I'd seen this somewhere.......
Considering it is a World Cup year, the IPL would need to end two weeks prior to the global event, as per the Supreme Court of India judgement. ESPNcricinfo understands that the 2019 IPL is likely to end by May 15

Steve Smith goes for over a million, while Joe Root unsold?

I do not understand the mindset of the IPL bidders at all. I guess England players have always been relatively unpopular due to availability/scheduling issues, but still.

Smith has a decent enough record in IPL... Root has none

Half the coaches are Aussies, of course.... which I'm sure helps

Had i been an owner i wou;ldn';t have bid for either of them...both world class players in tests and ODI'S but think there's better players to spend money on in t20 cricket

Smith was captain last year. He also scored a IPL ton last year. His team Rising Pune Supergiant was into finals and lost to a strong IPL team Mumbai Indians which has won IPL thrice. Smith captaincy was one reason. Was with Rajasthan Royals before who are forming a totally new team. So they were looking for a captaincy material I suppose.

England players have suffered due to full availability issues. Also Aussies are widely represented tat even auction table. Moody, Katich and Ricky were bidding for players. There was nobody from England. Even Daniel Christian got in a squad.KKR took him. Katich is Assistant coach for KKR. Surely there were better players at 1.1 cr than Christian who has flopped in IPL.

Moody is coach of Sunrises.

Ricky is head coach do Delhi Daredevil's.

So the Aussie presence is helping franchisees to scout or pick players from Australia.

Whereas there is nobody from England who was at auction table. Also i don't think there is any England coach in IPL. So the advantage of some player being recommended is lost.

Obviously franchisees will pick players irrespective of their is England coach or not. Example Ben, Sam, Jordan, Jos, Moeen, Mark.

Alex was ignored initially because they were was a talk that Alex does not plays spin well. Then it gets compounded with availability for only half season etc. But he may be picked as so.e top order batsman replacement in this addition or future auctions.

Morgan has flopped in IPL. It is understood why nobody placed initial bid for him.

There was some interest for David Willey. I think he will get into IPL.

Tymal Mills flopped totally last year.Dont think he will get into IPL squad again if he does not reduces his base price.

Maybe some more England players will get bid when there are auctions next time because the FTP will mean that all players will be available fully. However, the one challenge will be base price. Some of them have to be wise by setting it lower and then once franchisees start I itial bid there is a chance of mini bidding war to happen which can sky rocket to even surpass the base price by lot more. Also a presence of few England coaches in IPL will help. More if these coaches are on table during auction pool.
