To round off my day of obscure cricket I watched a cracker of a game between Winnipeg and Toronto which eventually went the way of a very impressive Toronto outfit.

Both teams showed some very good batting in a match that would have surpassed many a game in the more mainstream T20 competitions.

As well as the batting prowess on show, the bowling of Chris Green impressed me. Green is something of a T20 gun for hire and has turned out, at one point or another, in all the second tier T20 tournaments. His 3-33 was worthy of him being considered by a more illustrious outfit if he were able to continue that sort of form.

Where did you watch this, prof? I noticed Yuvraj and Gony are playing... both well past their prime, but still unusual to see Indians playing these comps.

Gony nearly got a 50 at a strike rate of 300 yesterday.

Absolutely cracking high-scoring game where Winnipeg's 210 beat Vancouver's 208 today.

In what was a very early 2010s performance, JP Duminy was first class as he stuck 77* off 38 balls and looked good for the century.

Winnipeg are now second in the table with Vancouver fourth with one win and one loss.

Crashed before the end of the second game last night but Brampton beat Edmonton to retain their unbeaten start to the competition.

This tournament has a vibe familiar to the action movie The Expendables to it. Rather than fading criminal mercenaries portrayed by action stars from yesteryear we have we have Cricketers who were at the top of their game in the early 2010s back for a farewell tour. In this match it was Shahid Afridi who rolled back the years with a score of 81 from 40 balls.

Today's exhibit on cricket's Antiques Roadshow was Chris Lynn who spanked a 48 ball 89 for Winnipeg in their win over Toronto.

When you add this score to his 74 off 34 in his match from yesterday, he has made a Stirling start to the tournament.

The top run scorers at this point really does look like a Who's Who of World Class T20 Cricketers from 2014.

Chris Gayle is first, then Lynn. JP Duminy is in 7th and Yuvraj is ninth.

saw JPD too, along with Dwaine Smith (still hopeless)

The Euro thing was on last night (was it last night?) but that looked like a T10 unless the rain had played its part.

In amongst the panoply of aging superstars of yesteryear, one player that stood out for me today was a young Associate Cricketer.

22 year old Kyle Phillip was on the losing side of Montreal's victory over Edmonton but he looked good quality. The scalps he got were good quality as well as he dismissed Coetzer, Gunasekera, Chandimal and George Bailey. There's 58 Tests, 307 ODIs and 140 T20Is worth of experience there.

Two relative unknowns thrived in the GT20 yesterday.

Daniel Sams, a bit part Aussies, got 4-25 as Vancouver beat table-topping Brampton.

In the later game Chirag Suri, an Indian born UAE player, outshone the bigger names in his team with a half century for Toronto to beat Montreal.

Yesterday a game of cricket broke out after long contract negotiations.

The game began 2 hours late as players refused to leave the hotel due to the fact they had not been paid and were told it was unclear when they were to be paid.

By the time it was ironed out, there was one man and his dog at the ground to see Toronto's Rodrigo Thomas score 70 off 56 balls to help his team beat Montreal.

Saad Bin Zafar has been sad so far in the GT20Canada with only 4 wickets in his last 5 games....he matched that for Vancouver today as they beat Brampton

A threefer for Rayad Emrit helped Winnipeg peg Brampton to 200 runs and help his team through to today's final against Vancouver.

Spent the evening watching the final of this. Never seen a match more scripted/fixed than this. It's like they weren't even trying to hide it. ICC really needs to investigate these smaller T20 leagues.
