The Bangladesh Premier League kicked off yesterday - not that you would know it if you are a UK viewer.

Today's morning game was a low scoring affair between reigning champions Comilla and Sylhet. Sylhet were all out for a mere 96 but Comilla failed to impress in the chase and looked sluggish. They eventually got there for the loss of eight wickets. Much improvement will be needed for their third tournament win in a row.

Chattogram's bowlers had the better of Dhaka today as a number of then walk away with stunning figures. After Chattogram set the bar with 161 but Dhaka were all out with 30 runs still left to get. Shoriful Islam was the best bowler with 4-34.

Despite their loss Tamim Iqbal scored 52 to add to his 50 yesterday to make him the highest runscorer. Chattogram mark their bowling superiority with Mehidy Hasan Miraz having the most wickets at the best economy.

Comilla ran out victios in this year's BPL in a very narrow final where Barishal needed 10 runs in the final over - but managed only 9. Earlier Barishal looked strong favourites but a late collapse put their title hopes in the bin and allowed the Imrul Kayes' led team to lift the trophy.

Will Jacks had a stunning tournament with 414 runs @41.40 for Chattogram whilst Comilla's Mustafizur Rahman was the stand out bowler with 19 @13.47.

Believe it or not, this season’s IPL is the ninth iteration of the tournament…and it began with something of a damp squib as Chattogram got a mere 89-9 in the opening fixture. Sylhet then ‘chased’ that down with 45 balls left in the game. The most impressive performance in the inaugural game came from Rejaur Raja whose 4-14 lead us out for best bowling figures.

It is very hard to judge which team or player is doing well as one team, Sylhet, have played twice, whilst the other teams have played once. The fact that Sylhet have won both their games means that they lead the way in the league and have the highest run-scorer (Najmul Hossain Shanto – 91) and highest wicket taker (Rejaur Rahman -5).

With the bat the highest score is 67 – scored twice so far; once by Rony Talukdar in t Rangpur’s win over Comilla and again today by Shakib Al Hasan in Barishal’s loss to Sylhet. Talukdar’s came a ball quicker than Shakib’s…..and he’s also not an arrogant idiot so I will give him the edge.

This tournament is a big’un – with games running until February 16th.
