This Checkatrade Trophy is bizarre. Not sure if this is the former Johnstones Paint Trophy but it's certainly different.


Some Premier League reserve teams are taking part
The games aren't considered "first class" so don't count as an official appearance. The relevance of this is if a player is suspended, this won't count towards the games he'll miss.
The other crazy bit about the above point is you have to field a full strength team otherwise you get fined.

That rule has existed for sometime, nothing new.

And yes, it is the new JPT.

16 under-23 teams are taking part. Mainly PL, but some Championship.

I know but it seems odd that a strong side has to turn out despite it not counting as an official match for appearance purposes.
