Over the lifetime of the contract, the deal costs Sunderland about £2 or 3 million pounds including Dafoe's wages, so that is pretty sensible business. Altidore's contract lasted as long as the deal Dafoe is on now, and Dafoe is only a being paid slightly over what Altidore was on, so in essence they have swapped a rubbish player for a player with proven goalscoring ability.

I think virtually everyteam under the European spots would take a punt on Dafoe for an overall £3 mill investment plus wages......

Fair enough, but for me Valdez is the oddest move of all as it sends a clear message De Gea is leaving. If he isn't then it's a major waste of talent and money. Not that I know what they paid for him.

Moyes took over a title winning side, and made them ordinary. LVG has taken over that side, bought in, and has made them half decent, which is nothing to write home about.
