I think soon after he was voted the most hated man in France just ahead of Adolf Hitler.

Curious to know what refs were being paid back then?
He claims today he was ball watching, but from his position on the field the two players are in his view. I reckon he was payed off by the Germans and will take the truth to his grave.

Who know's, but it would have been very difficult not to see that.
To think we (England) beat France 3-1 in our opening game. It went downhill after that.

I was thinking about this game the other day. We just steamed them and the Czechs soon after. Nowadays we seem to be scared to play football like that.

He knew exactly what he was doing. What he probably didn't realise was how severe he would hurt him. His backing away suggested he was panicking, probably followed by relief that he got away with it.

Second round was 3 team mini-groups. We were in with Spain & Germany. In the latter game we seemed obsessed whether or not the previously injured Karl-Heinze Rumenigge was playing. The Germans knew this and picked him even though he wasn't 100% (think he missed the next game). We got 2 0-0 draws and went out. Needed to goals v Spain to progress. Keegan & Brooking came on as subs in that game as they were injured previously. I think that was their only WC appearance.

That's right, all coming back to me now. Keegan missed a header late on.
