Think they would have been better off with Allardyce. Not sure Moyes is the kind of manager to thrive in a relegation battle.

Besides he still spends most of his time reminiscing about the good old days with Everton!

Dunno about that..in fairness to Moyes when he first took over at Everton they were always in and around the relegation zone, he always kept them up, and then did really well with them..

Moyes efforts are over rated at everton. He's often been touted as this saviour of a tight budget and achieving well, but it's probably worth remembering football changed a lot since then. There was no top 4, man city were still *modded*, mourinho had just taken over Chelsea that were a crap team with money. Arsenal and man united were till 2004 the only real forces in the league for a while.

So moyes got champions league...but Bolton and middles brough competed for it that year and just missed out. Hardly big budget teams of superstars. It's only since everton made it that money in the game became higher, and the top 4 emerged.

So Moyes ended up as a kind of best of the rest team at everton, but in an era where blackburn, stoke, bolton and a few others of similar ilk were his competitin.

None of those clubs got 36000 a week, and none had the historical pedigree or youth setups moyes had.

This idea that he lead a club of no resources is pretty rubbish. The youth setup at everton has cycled prem players out more than most teams. Got good money too....

About the same time people praise him for spending no money, he was paying 5 million for championship full backs, which in those days was top money for a lower league player. Bilyadenov was a huge cost and a flop. Felliani coat them a lot. Aj and yakubu must have been 10-11 mill each. Didn't they pay ridiculous money for James beattie?

Basically moyes came close to relegating one of two clubs that never have, closest in their history I believe, then after one notable year probably struck par for the next 8 years

Did it playing rubbish football too. Moyes days of buying decent lower league players for decent money have gone.... you want anyone who kicks a ball in league one, you pay 10 million, and his hit ratio after a few years becOme exhausted.

Not a modern Prem manager

Sadly we only got £5m for Beattie. It probably cost us our PL status five months later.

I might be wrong, but when they first started showing live first division football back on the BBC in the eighties, I'm sure it was on a Friday.

There were some Friday night matches in the eighties. I remember this because I would tape them while I went out for the night.

Liverpool beat Chealski, and are good for the win.

If only they could find a way to beat the "lesser teams" then they might find a way to challenge. That Burnley defeat has to hurt now.

Got think its not a bad start for Liverpool, they have played Arsenal, Spurs and Chealski all away from home for 7 points. Including playing last years champions, they have probably had the hardest start to the league.

As for Chealski this was the first team they have played in the top 10, and they came up a long way short.

Could get messy for Bournemouth at the moment. 2 down in the first 30 minutes.

Man C away was written off before the season started.

We lost 5-1 last season and Man C look way better already this season under Guardiola.

It's how we do against the Hulls Burnleys and West Broms that decides whether we go down or not.

I'm not expecting much against Everton, the way they're playing, next week either.

Forgot Seamus Coleman even existed until just now.

Apparently they paid £6 million according to the BBC's article at the time. Sounds nothing, but when you look at the three other strikers to go in the same window...

Fernando Morientes left Real Madrid to Liverpool for a few thousand away from the same price as Beattie...... FM had scored well over a 100 la liga goals, had 30 odd goals for Spain, won a few Champions Leagues as an intergral part of the squad, La Liga titles, started in two World Cups for his nation.

Nicholas Anelka..... for only a million more than Beattie.....Well over a 100 PL goals, World Cup winner, Champions League winner, Won Premier League Titles with two sides, player of the year in a top European league...

Bellamy... went on a free.... while we never know how much the transfer to MAn City not long after ended up costing, the lowest value touted was £15 million.....

In those days £6 million was still a very large investment. It was only after about 2005 when Roman kept on throwing money at Chelsea for a 2nd or 3 year in a row that transfer fees really then became ridiculous.
