Roben was just interviewed after the game and has expressed his surprise in Madrids tactics of thinking that 4 away goals would be enough to get through to the finals. :no

Said a while back, their defence is too weak to beat a team like Madrid. While teams that player slower will struggle to keep the ball, teams who play quick, direct football will punish their lack of quality at the back. Apart from Lahm, I don't think any of the defenders are Champions League team quality. Dante was caught out at the set piece, Alaba was caught out up the field through both ties, and Boateng has been pony for years.

Pep Guardiola must rethink his football philosophy. If Bayern win the German Cup it'll only be his 18th trophy in five seasons.

If they go out and spend 25 million on a defender, or even 50 million on two, they would be formidable.... they already have Lewandowski coming in at the end of the year for free, and he will give them the upfront quality they don't have in Manzukic...

Then again, Guardiola buying a defender?? :hmmm

I agree with that. Lahm's the only true world class defender they have. Alaba is basically a left winger stuck in defense... works against smaller teams but not against the likes of Real Madrid. I think Dante is ok, but nothing special. He'd be good with a quality CB beside him but Boateng is incredible average. Don't really rate Rafinha either. What's happened to Badstuber? Always thought he had a bit of potential but haven't heard of him for about two years.

Badstuber's been injured for pretty much 2 years!

Badstuber has a long way to go to proving he still has the body to play football at any level. He got a horrendous injury that may have ended a guy more experienced, and every attempt at even light training has so far ended on the operating table for more surgery. He was a good young prospect, but he is maybe another year at least away from top fitness, and Dante and Lahm are already passed 30.

Chelsea parking 3 buses tonight. 6 defenders, a CDM and 3 forward. 6-1-3?

I reckon it will be a 5-4-1 with luiz at cm. And this for a home game. Wow. Lets hope there's a method to the madness.

Chelsea: Schwarzer, Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry, Cole, Ramires, Luiz, Willian, Azpilicueta, Hazard, Torres

It's the kind of line-up I expect from Mourinho....

The away goal has come. Chelsea playing for a draw, or to nick it, was always risky with the away goal rule.

Adrian's 1st goal since November and only 3rd of the season. Very poor defending from Chelsea.

1 more Atletico goal kills the tie.
