IIRC, Law scored near the end of the game when Birmingham were not winning, so if there was a "dagger moment" for United fans, then it was probably that. Birmingham went onto score 2 minutes before time, and rendered the result at City meaningless, but that happened after.... Law himself has always been distraught about that moment.
In fact, I think Denis Law is credited with being the first player never to celebrate a goal against a former club. He slotted it in and his team-mates went to cheer him up rather than celebrate.
