Gerrard has had a decent international career, scoring some fine goals along the way. Like many others though, he hasn't produced consistently.

:thumb yep that about sums it up unfortunately. He did have some memorable moments though that still stick in my mind.

Kind of reminds me of one of those singers whose career starts off great and then if only they retired early everyone would have been wanting more. Unfortuantely some of those singers don't and eventually the music gets old and repetitive. That's probably a really ridiculous analogy but that's all I've got.

I heard him described as the best England player in the last 10 years by Henderson earlier.

What a load of crap,, scoring goals in 8-0 wins against Andorra doesn't make you great, Gerrard didn't turn up in the big games AT ALL.

Farewell, Stevie G! Good player, has had a decent international career albeit a tad overrated. Like a lot of others, he never turned up in a WC and watching him in Brazil was painful to say the least. He has made the right decision, time for the new generation to take over.

ashley cole is the best england player of the last ten years, made a few mistakes off the pitch but was always flawless on it, the only england player who was consistently excellent

Yep would agree with that. Englands only player of the last 10 years who at some stage was the best in his position in world football.

Also think its time for England to drop Rooney. He does not perform when required, and he is not the player he was. look to the future and let the players know no one is in the team on name alone

Did I hear right that next week there are international games being played on a Sunday?

Don't think that's happened before for qualifiers.

So Wazza confirmed as Captain. Hope he doesn't have to spend prolonged periods of time with the Queen in his new role.

I would have given it to Cahil but Rooney is fine. Not many players are almost certain of their place. Hart possibly, though he needs to be looking over his shoulder after a mediocre world cup.

I would think he is the logical option just because he is likely to always be on the pitch.

Yep. He will end up being our record goalscorer, and most capped player, so only right he should be made captain at some point. What do captains do anyway? Toss the coin, speak to the press. Yes they try and inspire on the pitch, but Cahill and other senior players should be doing that anyway.

Yeah I do wonder if it will make him get all worked up with his temper though?
