Qatar are proposing a 24-club football tournament every two years beginning 2015. Four clubs from England would be invited with each team banking a minimum of £175m.

I can't see it going ahead but if it does it would certainly shake things up.

It's all about money though. Chelsea got about £50m for winning the CL. Small beer compared with what's on the table here.

hmmm but this is completely different...how would you fit this in, + a world cup or a Euro tournament....because they would clash, and on top of domestic seasons all round the world..

I am trying to narrow down global football (or even European) to a 24-elite and it is hard as someone will always miss out. I think there may be interest as a way to get round FFP. Sound a bit like the euro super league which is often brought up.

I doubt footballers would want to affect their health by playing in the searing heat and after a full season of football, even if stadia have air conditioned temperatures of 28C.

Each team getting £175m equates to £4.725 Billion so teams would have to be committed over a length of time for it to become financially viable.

Michael Owen is retiring at the end of the season.

France 98 -will be my fondest memory of Owen. There have been many more of course including a hat-trick against Germany. Would have probably broken the England goalscoring record if it wasn't injuries.
