Yup. I think they missed a couple of fixtures when the Queen died and still haven't caught up due to the cup run.

Looking bad for Leicester now.

Indeed. We lost the game at Newcastle to the death of the Queen, 2 games were rescheduled for the FA Cup run, and apparently we lost both home and away games against Crystal Palace to train strikes. As it was a derby game, the police wanted away fans to travel to the games uniquely by trains with specific departure times for ticket holders, so they could control the flow in and out the grounds with escorts, but the train strike meant it could not happen, so the police asked the FA to postpone both games.

with Liverpool showing no sign of stopping this end of season run, the Newcastle Brighton match is looking like a must win for Newcastle. Don't want to have to go to Chelsea on the last day of the season needing a win to secure a top 4 finish if it can be helped. My nerves would be shredded, I think

It's depressing in this day and age that this sort of police control is still needed for football games.

I get the feeling that we are entering another golden era of hooligans. One only has to look at that Napoli v Udinese game that ended in a riot the other week, or the Barcelona game last weekend which ended in their opposition fans storming the pitch to stop them celebrating their title, to see its a Europe wide thing at the moment, and it seems to be occurring every week. Even in the small club I watch in Belgium, we had a game last year cancelled mid-game because Beerschot fans started attacking us, and trouble with Antwerp and Anderlecht, weirdly both instances of the away fans fighting themselves.

As someone who fairly regularly goes to watch matches away for USG, I really prefer the police to put these measures in place than not. I think there are certain grounds I wouldn't go to without the feeling safety is taken as paramount. But in Belgium, its well organised. Escorted mandatory supporters buses for any ground with a history of fans, or voluntary timed police escorts from train or bus stations when not. Just eradicates the opportunity for anyone to cause trouble.

Although Leverkusen and their police can go **** themselves, because that felt being a prisoner of war

Toney gets an 8 month suspension for breaking betting rules

this was always on the cards, which is why I was so surprised to see loads of speculation over a summer transfer.

he can neither play nor train with immediate effect. He can train with Brentford from 17th Sept, but can't play until Jan 17th

I don't know, really. There were 232 separate rule breaches. That seems like a lot of breahes.

Trippier got a 10 week ban and £70k fine for 4 violations around his move from Spurs to AM. Sturridge got a 6 week ban increased after an FA appeal, to 4 months, for something similar when he left Liverpool

quite what Toney's breaches were for exactly I don't know, but it can't be as simple as telling some friends or family that you are moving clubs as it seems to have been with Trippier and Sturridge. The fact that the FA pushed for Sturridge's ban to be increased suggests it's somethng they feel very strongly about

What happened last night in that West Ham game is totally unacceptable. Az Alkmaar should be banned from Europe for the foreseeable future. We cannot allow this to happen without the strictest punishments possible.

Fair play to those brave West Ham players who attempted to protect their families watching.

I didn't know about that, until you mentioned it

Football does need to get a grip of crowd behaviour. It seems to crop up all over the place. There seemed to be incidents of pitch invasions, assaults on players and officials almost on a daily basis around this time last year in the English leagues as promotions and relegations were confirmed. I haven't heard of any this year, so presumably something was done, although I couldn't say what

Spurs have been a shambles this season, losing again today. I reckon they're going to miss out on Europe next season. HK has a lot of thinking to do

Man Utd scrape past Bournemouth to join Newcastle on 69 points

Liverpool squandered the 180 mins of time added on to draw with Villa. They needed to win really. I presume that Klopp will have been watching from his hotel room.... ponce!

Newcastle not mathematically assured of a top 4 finish, but with only one point needed from their final two games and a 7 goal GD over Liverpool, it would take something extraordinary not to make the Ch L for next season
