Will England qualify automatically for this tournament now? What about the other 12 countries who will host a game?

If they all go through automatically it will weaken the qualification process.

That would be a sickener if England hosted the final & semis and didn't even qualify for the group stages.

why did Platini make a big show of turning around the card to show the name of the countries, when it was written on both sides anyway? :dunno

It would cost FIFA a fortune to take it from them.

The best thing European teams could do is cry off due to the heat.

The European leagues wont be happy with a summer WC due to the risk to their players. And they will be even more upset if the WC is moved to their winter as it will effect their leagues and income. The Qatar decision might have been a step to far from Fifa?

I kinda get the feeling the UEFA is not happy with FIFA, and thus I can see them kicking up a bit of a fuss over all this after the ethics report comes out. If it ever comes out.

it could affect three seasons if its played in the winter

to have a big enough break in the middle of the season to have the world cup the season would have to start earlier and finish later

that means the season before would have to finish a bit earlier to allow a break before the impacted season starts , and as it would then finish later the season after would have to start later for the same reason

On top of this, how will clubs keep players interested and fit that are not competing at the World Cup? It will increase expenses for these clubs, and they wont be getting much in return. Would also be interesting to see the world cup hang over of players after a draining tournament conducted through the normal european season. Europe is where all the best players ply their trade. Clubs pay the wages of these players, i really cant see them being happy about this.

With Welbeck flowering as a centre forward and Sturridge in the side, how on earth is the Rooney brigade going to defend his place in the side (I'm looking at you, DR)? The only way I see him fitting into the side is if he plays as a defensive midfielder.
