The problem with Dyke's plan seems to miss a very important idea....

(1) Surely by forcing a player to register for a B team, they are made ineligible to play for two clubs under current rules? This would mean that a club is confronted with a sticky situation where they have to pick if a player registers for a non-league B team, or whether or not he is left to rot with no reserve team football existing anymore, on the basis that premier league can draw on under 21 players when ever they like.... you either have to commit youngsters to a crap level all year, or have them playing NO COMPETITIVE football at any level all year.

So, in essence, someone like Wilson the other night wouldn't have gotten his chance in the premier league because he would have been, instead, playing against Salford Key's in League Fifteen, or whatever.

(2) How do first team squad players stay fit if reverse teams no longer exist? Are we going to have the fair situation whereby B teams are able to field anyone from the first team? So Nani gets parachuted in for the killer game in the league season for Man United B v Nuneaton Town "league twenty" playoff final?

(3) Are there any players in recent memory who came from non-league football to the national team? Considering that all the ones like Wright/Ferdinand/Waddle had not previously played football in the league and weren't getting football simply because they hadn't impressed any scouts, they wouldn't have benefitted under the system..... someone like Chris Smalling, who couldn't convince Millwall to keep him in a junior team, would have also been the same.... these are not players who would have found opportunities under the new rules, simply because they couldn't even work into the systems at an even lower level despite opportunities.... Ian Wright couldn't even get a contract in Brighton's youth team when the club were begging for free talent!

(4) Is it a great idea to supplant boring B team games for teams in the football league that generate revenue? Do we think Spurs B team would get more people then Sheffield United? Wouldn't the net effect be a drastic drop in public interest, and revenue generation????

And what happens if revenue drops?? Grassroots suffer, teams cant afford YTS schemes, facilities and standards drop....

(5) How many players that the big clubs currently on loan below the Championship are making killer contributions at their clubs? Not many, if any. Robinson from Liverpool has played a few games for Blackpool, a few others here and there, but Man United youngsters at Southend cant get a game this season!!! So we are forcing clubs to play against sub-par B teams??

Did Jack Wilshere go to Southend? Nope, good enough at 18 to play Premier League football.... that's what an international class player should be in this day and age, the age of development is much lower.



End of the day, if you cant get a game at a professional side inside the current system, you aren't going to EVER be an asset to the national team.

It's not exactly the biggest issue with regard to B team idea, but I have noticed today that the proposal is limited to ten B teams.

So it's not even as if it will benefit just the PL teams. It's even more narrower than that: just a select few (including all of the big five, no doubt) PL teams.

It wont' It's just another money making exercise.

How? As I've just said, I'm completely against B teams. But even I fail to see how it can be passed off as a money making exercise for the FA.

No-one is going to support these teams. No-one is going to pay to go these matches. TV companies will continue to prioritise the PL over the lower leagues, so will show few if any matches (paying very little for them - and what they do pay will no doubt be paid to the Football League and/or Conference).

Kevin Phillips and Les Ferdinand played non league well into their early 20's.

You'd think Mr Dyke's PR team would have tested the water before he came out with these proposals because as far as I can see it's gone down like a lead balloon with everyone except Ryan Giggs and Brendan Rodgers.

In terms of improving the England team I can't see how this proposal would be any different from the current loan system.
