Lampard retires from England duty.

Scored a few, and loved playing for England, but I've never been a massive fan, and often felt he'd rather shoot than pass, when others were better situated.

I thought he already had retired.

Doubt he would have got another game anyway.

Eibar's rapid rise is an interesting story, it's pretty much the equivalent of Fleetwood Town playing Premier League Football.

Yes, a town which has a population of just 27,000 and the ground (even with temporary stands) holds under 6,000.

Basingstoke Town are in talks to sign Ronaldinho.

The Conference South club claim to be in talks with the 33-year-old former Brazil international, who left Atletico Mineiro this summer.

Simon Hood, Basingstoke Town's marketing director, said: "Discussions have been had, and there is an offer on the table. Now it is up to Ronaldinho to decide whether he wants to take us up on it.

"He is on a free transfer and if he wants to get into English football, I cannot think of a better way to do that than by signing for Basingstoke Town."

I SO hope this is true and happens, I live 20 mins or so from Basingstoke.

I remember Doncaster announcing in the late 90's that they were about to shock the footballing world with a famous name having struck a deal..... the crowd that turned up apparently werent too delighted when that famous world star turned out to be a 41 year old Neville Southall, who at the time probably weighed the same in stone and the years in his life.

They released him after a few games. Apparently he was ultra pants.

Wasn't he in Brazils 30man WC squad, and not made the cut ??

Last season Basingstoke averaged 312 fans to home games, that would increase massively.

Austrian player receives 70-match ban for headbutting referee

An Austrian footballer has been banned for 70 matches for headbutting a referee.

Ismail Gunduz of amateur side SK Rum received the punishment after he reacted furiously to being shown a second yellow card in the 87th minute of a match against SPG Innsbruck West.

"We distance ourselves from Ismail Gunduz's behaviour," Rum coach Michael Messner told a local paper.

"He was thrown out of the club with immediate effect."

Not in agreement with this. As soon as goal line technology came in (I was against that as well), this sort of stuff was going to follow. They'll be off-side replays, throw in replays before you can shout REF.
