It's worth remembering that his tenure lasted 26 years - so some may be great in one era but perhaps not another.

Steve Bruce is a classic example - one of the best centre backs not to play for England - but at his peak there weren't the players running at him at pace as much as there would be today. Indeed, that's why he was finally left out of the Champions League side.
Still my favourite ex_- Gills player though.

However, the likes of Scholes and Giggs have adapted their game and been able to last much longer - probably the first two names on the Fergie's Best team sheet - and he didn't have to buy them!
