UEFA Champions League 16/17

City start their champions league campaign tonight against Steaua Bucharest.

Pep you would think should be able to navigate City through this early round.

No Chealski or United this year, got to make it hard for City to win the league though you get the feeling this is the competition that the owners really want to win.

Will be interesting to see how Leicester do in this competition. With out the usual big British teams, you wonder how far Spurs and Leicester will go?

Arsenal, we already know will be knocked out by Barcelona at the final 16 stage.

That's what always happens to arsenal. ...

Only two British players start for Manchester City. Raheem sterling and John stones. Is it therefore any surprise England players struggle against international teams?

Sterling wins another penalty. Aguero missed it.

Sterling sets up David silva 1-0.

Another penalty another aguero miss!

Aguero can't score from the spot but he scored from open play. Another assist from sterling.

Pretty safe to say they've qualified for the group stages.

Ajax could be in trouble, conceding an away goal to FC Rostov.

Celtic should be through although those two away goals might come back to bite them.

If Celtic make it through, then Rodgers will have achieved Celtics main goal for the season.

Celtic just make it to the group stages for the first time in 3 years.

Roma though, they are out after finishing with 9 men against Porto.

The balance of the new draw system is pretty stupid. Roma get FC Porto.... Villarreal get Monaco....

But then you get a guaranteed qualifier out of matches between...

Legia Warsaw and Dundalk......
V.Plzen and Ludogorets Razgrad....
Salzburg and Dinamo Zagreb....
APOEL Nicosia and FC Copenhagen.....
Hapeo l Beer Sheva and Celtic....

They want more crap teams in the group stages?

Joe Hart finally got a game.

Iheanacho in trouble. Great to see the Bucharest player showing so much concern.

Don't think he had much to do though.

Under new rules England would have 4 places in the Champions League as of next year. Intriguing seeming as an English club hasn't set the world alight in the CL for a few years.

We already do have 4 places. Or is that 4 immediate places in the group stages?
