A sad day for Sutton United in what has been a fine cup run, but difficult to sympathise when the club whored themselves out to a gutter rag for a few extra quid.
I would be interested to know how much Sutton United got from The Sun for shirt and advertising sponsorship, having already received £215k in prize money and £391k in TV money. £606,000 + gate money is season defining for any non league club.
Technically what Wayne Shaw did could be classed as spot fixing, but how can a ban be enforceable if it did not influence the match outcome? If anything the Gambling Commission should be investigating The Sun and stripping their gaming licence for offering a market in direct relation to one of their clients, i.e. shirt and advertising sponsors of Sutton United.
