Didnt Saints finish 8th and nearly win the league cup? Very strange?

Only just catching up on this.

Forget about the league finish. That has more to do with the ineptitude of others, than us "achieving" 8th. Even when we lose at home to Stoke on the final day, WBA, Bmouth and Leicester all contrived to fail to take 8th from us. We won something like two of our final nine matches, and yet managed to move up from about 12th to 8th - so bad were sides around us. The entire league below Everton was awful last season.

We finished two places lower than the previous season.

We finished just six points above 17th. Six points above 17th.

We finished, I believe, a massive 17 points worse off than the previous season.

We score just 17 home goals all season, and nine of them came in three games. So just EIGHT in the other SIXTEEN games.

We dropped points to Hull (twice), Sunderland (at home), Watford (at home), WBA (at home), West Ham (at home), Leicester (at home), Bmouth (at home), and Stoke (twice). As well as away defeats to Swansea, Burnley and Palace - the latter being a thrashing.

We got dumped out the EL group stage, when we only needed to beat (or draw 0-0) a side from Israel who no-one had ever heard of before.

Other than the first five games of the season, we never played two up front.

Player power seemed to rule. For example, Tadic complained through the media back in February that he was always being subbed. For the remainder of the season, he was only subbed twice more - despite being awful in some games.

Ultimately fans wanted Puel out long before he was sacked. It's the first time I didn't stay after the final home game of the season to applaud the players and staff for the season. Indeed, the ground was less than one-third full.

Will Pellegrino be any better? I have no idea. But thank the lord Puel is gone.

Cheers for the info Bendy :salute

Only looking at the the league position and reaching a final suggested a good season. Not the case in the end.

Everton's summer spend goes above 90 million as they sign Michael Keane for 30m.

Two unproven defensive additions for 30 million each, the newish owner appears to mean business, trying to crack the top 4?

suppose it depends what you mean by "unproven"

Keane has 90 PL appearances for Burnley over the last 3 years and has a couple of full england caps i believe

in todays market where we are routinely seeing players moving for $40M+ this is the going rate for players with that sort of CV

They are still relatively inexperienced at the top level particularly Pickford, Keane's price tag is more understandable.

My point was more that Everton are now prepared to pay top dollar for these players, both record signings and defensive as opposed to offensive players.

all i was meaning is we have a new reality now when it comes to how much players cost

take the Keita guy Liverpool are meant to be after, its being reported that his club want £70M for him, Chelsea maybe going to pay £60M for a left back

£30M is the new £10M

90 million bought united 1 player last year, and now with the new TV money and the money that will come in for Lukaku, Everton have a bit of money to spend. So far they have 5 new players for 90 mil. They have also recouped 20 million from Cleverly and Deulofeu. When Lukaku is sold they will have broken even on transfers.

Worth noting that the oldest player Everton have signed is Davy Klaasen at 24.

This is a good move for Keane as it means he will get plenty of game time whilst playing for a team that might be knocking on the door of the top 6.

Also it seems Everton have got most of their buisness done early, which is sensible. Will obviosuly finish 15th now.......

Budget, whats your thoughts on Bournemouth transfers so far. Defoe on a 3 year contract seems a long time?

30 Million spent, is their plans for more players to come in?

Everton getting Sandro Ramirez for just £5.2M, which was the buyout clause in his contract, might be a very good deal for them tho

You're right, I'm still struggling to come to terms with all these ridiculous price tags, maybe I shouldn't be surprised by 30 million for an inexperienced keeper anymore or with a second tier team like Everton paying that much for him.

After all going from putting £1 in a collection tin to ward off the demise of my football team less than ten years ago to paying 15 million for Jordan Ibe last summer and 35 million for Begovic and Ake this is just incomprehensible!

I'm a bit uneasy but alot of people down here seem happy.

Ake is a decent prospect who did well for us last season, but the irony is that is the reason he has cost 20 million.

Begovic was briefly with us before, hope he has improved , a year on the bench at Chelsea won't have helped.

Defoe could be decent, haven't read what he is finally going to cost us, but sounds like mega wages and a signing on fee on top. He will get plenty of goal scoring chances with us as opposed to when he was at Sunderland so he may do will. He seems a very young 35 year old still.

Not sure anyone else is on the horizon, think we have pretty much filled the gaps, just need to keep hold of one or two players now!

John Terry says he wanted to play in the Championship as he didn't want to play against his former club.

So what happens if Villa get Chelsea in the cup?

Cheers Budget.

I heard Defoe is on 60,000 a week, so pretty big wages. Though no Jack wages to pay this season.

looks like Arsenal about to sign Lacazette for around £45M

Wenger will be getting a nosebleed

also meant to be close to a deal for Mahrez

saw a comment earlier that assuming Arsenal dont sell Sanchez or Ozil they could end up with a front four of Lacazette, Maherz, Alexis and Ozil or LMAO for short
