I wish I could share your concern DFM, but I've had it with the England football team. Too many disappointments over the years.

They'll probably go and win the thing this time.

No they won't!

Looks like a pretty dull finish to the Premier League this season.

Champions 99.9% decided.

Top 4 currently are pretty likely to remain as the top 4.

Bottom 3 currently are also pretty likely to remain the bottom 3 at the end of the season.

You could maybe make a case for Stoke or Southampton if either was winning the odd game, but both are on 4 game losing streaks, and the manner of yesterday's defeat for Southampton at home to Chelsea was about as demoralising as you could get.

If Man U weren't so inconsistent you could almost think they did that deliberately.

Maybe not in the world but probably out of the top five leagues in Europe.

Juventus, PSG and Bayern Munich have all dominated their respective leagues in the last few seasons and Barcelona and Madrid in Spain.

I think we've had a fair few different winners, Man U, Man C, Chelsea and Leicester. Liverpool, Spurs and Arsenal have also been in the mix on a number of occasions.

Obviously there are lots of other factors to take into account when considering competitive. You could probably look at teams ability to survive in the League after promotion. This season there is every chance that all three sides will survive!

question of the week.....

What is the point of Slimani?

signs a loan deal, spends most of it out with an injury, makes 2 appearances as a late sub, missing a match against his parent club in between, then picks up a 3 match ban just in time for the last 3 games, for being a t1t

I wonder how much his 30 mins of football cost Newcastle?

Probably try to sign him permanently, just in case Ashley reneges on his promises again

BBC Look North going all wax lyrical on Huddersfield Town for finishing 17th in the Premier League. To celebrate it as some sort of sporting success just sums up English football and society in general. The amount of revenue floating in the top flights makes consolidation a realistic objective, heck even Bournemouth and Burnley are more than holding their own. It's not like 20 years ago where newly promoted clubs like Barnsley were well and truly up against it.

All this rhetoric that Premier League status "good for the town and the economy", but Huddersfield sold themselves out by abandoning their once prolific academy for the sake of a couple of million. This was a club who produced local born players Jon Stead and Alex Smithies from eight years old, primary school children in Huddersfield and Kirklees denied the chance to emulate past heroes.

I've been told that Newcastle paid Leicester a £2M fee for a half season loan deal and £900K in wages..... for 40 mins of football!
I have no idea how true that is, but it sounds like just the sort of thing that Newcastle would do.

thank goodness there is no sense that Benitez is even remotely interested in signing him permanently. The big daft ponce! (Slimani, not Benitez)

then again... with Ashley in charge... Slimani might be the only deal that Rafa can be certain of making

bird in the hand, and all that

Ashley won't give him any money to spend......he will sell Lascelles and anyone else he can this summer and trouser all the money, because he just wants to sell every saleable asset before selling the club.

Prolific academy!! :lmao

A striker who has only scored in league two, and a keeper who never played above the mid table of the championship. And nothing else.

In terms of ranking academies, if that's the output going back the 70s when Huddersfield were last in the top flight with a few homegrown lads, I'd probably guess it ranks somewhere very near the bottom of the pyramid.

Premier league or fielding journeyman local born shite in league two??? :stupid

Talking of strong academies, In the last 5 years Forest has sold about 25 million worth of academy players and the present team has 6 academy players in the first team squad. Not that its helped forest as the moneys been squandered and the young players that are bought through and moved on to soon to have an impact for the club. Even so its been the only success story to come out of Forest in the last 15 years.

Which ones? Lascelles... they sold one to pep, can't remember his name. And the guy who went to Germany, but was sold back to west brom...oli burke was it?

Tbf forest have always had a good academy going back.
