The English Football League/National League 2017/2018

Best get this topic started as the first games will be starting next week...........

From the Forest perspective we have new owners, a few new players but it seems we will be very happy with mid table this year. A big sale of 15 million for our star striker Britt, but it seems Peterborough will get a big chunk of that money. This money will be used to stabalize the club it seems.

After 5 years of being a joke, new owners means new hope, for now......

Where did that summer go!

I'll again start off and state that I hope Wycombe can stay up.

Significant changes at Valley Parade in the close season

The last three history makers have moved to new clubs - James Meredith (Millwall), Rory McArdle (Scunthorpe) and Stephen Darby (Bolton). Billy Clarke and Mark Marshall joining Charlton Athletic. New, younger players have come into the club and transfer fees have been paid - notably Dom Poleon and Jake Reeves from AFC Wimbledon, Shay McCartan from Accrington Stanley. Also players from Premier League development squads have been signed as "ones for the future".

The average age squad must be easily 5 years younger than last season. I suspect the German owners transfer policy is to get yonger players who are more mobile and play on the deck, whereas rival League One clubs are making prolific signings. Not necessarily a bad thing where Championship football is on a different level to League One and players are primed to play that style of football. It's when winter sets in, pitches get heavier where experienced heads and physical bodies win the tight battles.

Heart says promotion, but head says top half finish.

Top of the league.......

One of the most one sided 1-0 i have watched. How Forest got 3 points i have no idea.

Milwall might well have the tallest team in the league, and Forest could not cope. But Milwall, if they finish in front of goal like that then they will be in a relegation battle, along with Forest.

3 wins to start the season, 2 in the league.

45 more points for safety. A Deserved away victory by all accounts. Should do well against teams like Brentford who are a lot less physical First time we have beaten them in 7 games, i guess that shows how bad Forest have been, and how well Brentford have.

SOmehow beat Middlesbrough 2-1. Great first half, but lucky to get the three points after the second half. But 42 points to go, and are actually playing some great football inbetween giving the ball away in dangerous areas..

As for Middlesborough, they wont be going up based on that performance. And now watching leeds beating sunderland. Looking at the crowds at Sunderland, and the way they are playing, it could be a long time before they are back in the top flight. Never mind their debt problems.

Forest have just signed Liam Bridcutt for million. Seems a very good deal, SP or anyone else got some views on him? I know he did well at leeds and Brighton. Seems we are getting a deal even though he had one year left on his contract.

Excellent piece of business by Forest, saw them at Oakwell last week and looked very sharp when attacking but a bit vulnerable in the middle against the counter-attack and Barnsley's tenacity in the front line that got the Tykes a win. I feel a quality holding midfielder plus a centre back and Forest are top six contenders.

Holding midfeilder was a priority, which we seem to have got. Worrel is developing as a good CB, but we certainly need a better one next to him.

The best game we have played was against Barnsley, but somehow forest lost that game, and got a win against Milwall. 4 wins in the season and 3 in the league is a false reflection of where we are. Mid table will be a massive improvement on last year, and the club seems to have made some shrewd signings. Certainly heading in the right direction. But our impatient fans are already talking of promotion, and we are at best a top 10 side at present. Even so, nice to see us play some good footy, the Forest way..... as opposed to some of the dross we have had to put up with over the last 10-15 years. The odd exceptions of course.

I've seen better play in the over 50s league on a Sunday. They don t have any shape at all. Don't seem to be able to play together. We'll get out of this division at the first attempt but going in the wrong direction.
