Liverpool edge Everton 2-1.

Fleetwood held Leicester City to a goalless draw.

Newcastle don't get knocked out in the 3rd round... there's a novelty.

I read somewhere that Newcastle have only gotten past the 4th round once in the last 10 years.... Perhaps Benitez will take the comp more seriously than his Ashley era predecessors (told you i was a bit dim)

Watching the Brighton v Crystal Palace game for no other reason than it's the first ever use of VAR in the English professional game.

Looking forward to seeing how it all goes.

Fourth round.

The FA Cup is boring full stop.

What makes a good tie?

All premier league - definitely not.

Lower league against premier, possibly. Got a couple of those in this draw.

4th round of course!

Yeovil and Newport don't seem to have any chance tbh.

I can't stand the FA Cup, because it interferes with the bread and butter football programme once a month.

I actually prefer the League Cup because that takes place midweek and doesn't interfere.

Scrap one of these competitions, just in the same way they should scrap the OD in cricket, as T20 has massively lessened its importance.

First goal scored after VAR review tonight, as an offside decision is reversed.

Got to be careful with these, because defenders may hesitate if they see the offside flag, and the reversal becomes an issue.

In tennis the point would be replayed, but they can't re enact a move in football!

Generally the flag goes up too late to affect anything the defenders do, although I'm sure that if the offside flag was from a long way out and the everyone apart from the attacker went and had a cup of tea while he walked the ball unopposed into the net, that they wouldn't refer the offside to VAR.

But I agree, they will have to sort a lot things out as everyone gets used to the new technology. Sort a few protocols out.

Players and coaches will, even now, be trying to work out how best to abuse VAR

This is the precise reason why video assisted technology does not work in football. Rugby and cricket are played in sets and a DRS/TMO/video assisted decision does not affect with the passage of play. Football is played openly and to stop a game because of a "maybe" decision ruins the concept. The only time where VAR can be effective is if the ball instantaneously goes out of play.
