Already looking like a group we should qualify from but won't.

More than happy with that group....belgium will be tricky, should walk the other two games, but we never make it easy for ourselves....however had you offered Southgate that draw before the draw was made, i think he would have snapped your arm off...

Good to see the draw was done quickly rather than the usual padding out.

Easyish group, and not a bad last 16 game, if we get through.

The Russian group looks weaker on paper.

I think I'm right in saying they're the lowest ranked team in the tournament.

England will do well, I reckon, well enough to get knocked out on penalties. ;)

I'm presuming the winner/runner up of group H.

SSN had the scenarios. Poland was one option. Can't remember the others.

Ah well.... qualify from the groups, get Columbia and lose 1-0 after some Central American toerag simulates his way to a penalty and an undeserved red card, with England scoring late on only to have it ruled out for offside despite the player being about 5 yards onside.

Nah, penalties.

I read that while England have been undefeated in qualifying for major tournaments since 2009, they haven't won a knockout game at one since 2006! Their record over the last two world cups: PL 7, W 1, D 3, L 3. Pretty pathetic.

I can't work out how we always seem to cruise qualifying, but then perform so hopelessly on the big stage. Ok, the standard of opposition at qualifying is not always high, but no higher than the weaker teams who make the world cup (had Switzerland in our qualifying group this time who rank above us, and teams like Costa Rica, USA and Algeria in our WC group). The last halfway decent tournament performance we had was probably 2002 (out in the quarters to eventual champions), and even then we probably only punched at our theoretical weight, or just about. Everything since has been pretty disappointing.
