Couldn't agree more. Unfortunately they seem to be doing in this World Cup exactly what they did in Euro 2016 - just enough to scrape through and not get knocked out, which still playing like crap, and somehow finding the equaliser/winner when they need it, in part due to dodgy refereeing.

Aussies not disgraced ; but they'll regard this as an ultimately unsatisfying effort. Just two (penalty) goals in three games just isn't good enough.

Australias lack of goals has been a problem. The fact Cahill went even though he was not getting a game for Millwall shows the problems Australia has.

Played better than i expected though, and have not been the worse team at this world cup which is what i was thought might happen.

Apparently the winner of group G (assuming they win their last 16 match) is likely to have face either Brazil or Germany in the quarters, whereas the runner up is likely to end up facing either Switzerland or Mexico. Given that we will know exactly which teams will be in the mix by then, I doubt I'll be gutted if we lose to Belgium.

I'm not suggesting that we shouldn't try to win the game, you understand, just that I think I'd perfectly sanguine about the possibility of losing on Thursday
