Doesnt he have an unbelievable record at International level?? And was it him v Spain or Holland that scored that wonder goal in 2014? Still, he cant be in the Australia squad can he? He must be at least 40 now.

Good player in his day, very underrated at times...... not sure I have ever seen a player better in the air, the guy should have been a high jumper, no one ever got close to him.

He just has an amazing hang time when he jumps. He is in the Aussie squad, but i think thats more down to the state of football in Australia presently. He could not even get games in the Milwall team before this world cup.

Playing for Australia does mean something for him though which is great to see.

Is Jedinak still around in the national team? He was another very underrated aussie central midfielder. Must be getting on a bit now.

Its a hell of a strike isnt it. I remember a friend at the time telling me the keeper should have saved it ha ha..... like hell he should, its come of his foot like a tracer bullet.

Mile Jedinak was playing for Villa last season. I believe he had a good season though did not see any games.

Still in the Aussie team, and will play an important part in the WC.

This Australian team is hopefully at its lowest level now. Going to be defensive gameplan and hoping to actually get a result or 2 this year. Unlikely. Last time i think they were pretty much the worse team in the world cup on results.

There is not much youth coming through this team at present. I think i read somewhere that there is only 3 players under 25 in the squad. Might need to check that.

The Iran football team is without boots..their sponsor Nike has been told by USA government to pull out of their sponsorship deal with Iran, due to political reasons just days before world cup... theyve gone into shops and bought their own..

Not long to go now. Of course, from an Australian point of view, most of the matches are in the middle of the bloody night, but that's what you get from living in a stupid timezone. At least they're kind enough to have scheduled Australia's group games to be in timeslots that are evening here rather than 3am. So I can watch the inevitable thrashing by France down the pub on Saturday evening my time :)

Many people are calling the WorldCup the dress rehearsal for the coup de grace of Russia's sporting year - Russia's first official T20 some point in 2019 #TenuousCricketLink

I think Mrs DF is telling me something. The 'escape to' room upstairs, which has been filled with wedding stuff... dresses, veils, table decorations, bouquets and such like for the last 9 months, has been cleaned out in the last couple of days.... polished, hoovered and tidied, with the telly screen in sparkling condition, and she's taken to asking me things like 'do I want the big, comfy swivel chair moved upstairs?'

I am very dim, of course, but I'm beginning to think that she isn't fancying wall to wall football and then tennis on the downstairs telly for the next 5 weeks

How the hell does Ignashevich still get a game for Russia? Must be 40 years old!
