Rafa has got Newcastle to be organised and disciplined, but you have a feeling without a Champions League winning manager at the helm, the team doesnt strike you as one that could survive in the top tier of English football. He's doing miracles at Newcastle, and if it werent for a passionate fan base getting behind him and connecting with him on a personal level, he would have walked ages ago.

Agree with that completely. I think it will be the single biggest factor in him deciding whether or not to sign a contract extension. As a manager it must be wonderful to know that no matter what happens, however badly the season goes or the team plays, the fans will always blame the owner. Some managers have to put up with all kinds of nonsense from supporters, but Benitez will not have to. He may even remember his time at Chelsea and appreciate the rapport he has with the Newcastle faithful

He may end up going, but I think he is actively looking for a reason to stay

Spent 120 million in the summer. Brought in decent players too.... they were expected to do a lot better at the start, but it seems the squad is only as strong as its weakest point.

Giving ole the job made no sense to me. He was told he had it till the end of the season, so why rock the boat?

Utd will probably be knocked out by Barca, and indifferent league form will put pressure on Ole before the next season even starts.

As a self confessed hater of all things Man Utd, including managers and most of their players past and present, I confess to rather liking OGS. I liked him as a player and i wish him well as a manager

I wasn't basing it on that result. I just didn't see the point when he wasn't expecting it till the end of the season, if at all. What happens now if Utd have a bad run?

Liverpool certainly seem to have notched a few offside goals of late.

Reminds me a bit of Leicester's run 3 years ago when seemingly every decision went their way in the final 10 or so games.

Newcastle reverting to type

missing loads of gilt edged chances and then losing 1-0 to a daft penalty that ended up being the only shot on target for the opposition

Going to feel like a long run in if Cardiff were to suddenly pull a couple of wins out of the bag

Nobody seems to want third place. Arsenal turn to slide to defeat. Beaten 1-0 by Everton.

This was on the BBC live match feed of the Leicester/Newcastle game

If Newcastle do win this they will be up to 13th on 38 points and surely safe for another year in the Premier League. Mike Ashley can celebrate by going out and buying Dorothy Perkins or something.

Got to be safe now though.

Newcastle have somehow done it again. But with Mike loosing approx 100 million on the Debenhams deal, I'm not sure Newcastle will get much money over the summer....

Perhaps this is the summer he finally manages to sell the team?
