A player sold for 2.5 million to a EPL club is hardly suggesting a strong league. The SPL is a poor league at present, and it shows no sign of improving.

As for Scottish managers south of the border, they have nothing to do with the SPL.

A bleak outlook for Scottish footballs future according to a report by accountancy firm Pricewaterhouse Coopers. Definitely worrying news for fans of lesser Scottish sides.

Falkirk manager Steve Pressley calls for the SPL to be expanded to 20 teams

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/15708556.stm

Maybe 20 teams is a bit excessive but he does have a point in that fans are staying away and there is an over reliance in television money.

Scottish Football is stuck in the 20th Century, junior teams can't win promotion to the Football League without having to apply. Two major changes to make the SPL interesting is expand membership to at least 18 teams and have an end of season playoff, similar to Rugby League to determine SPL winners.

a league cant be strong, if only out of 2 teams to win the title every year, and everyone else is miles behind.

English premier league i would say there are 4 or 5 teams who can win the league this year

La Liga i dont actually think is that good. Only Barca and Real ever win the league nowadays.

Probably 3 - Man City, Man Utd or Chelsea.

Liverpool, Arsenal & Spurs may be up there but they wont win the title.

but its still much more competitve than SPL. Where with only 12 teams in, and only 2 acutally have a chance of winning the title, cant be good for scottish football.

The Scottish Cup has produced some strange results in the past.

I remember about 20-30 years ago Stirling Albion won a game 20-0.

maybe that shows that you shouldn't comment on things you know nothing about

yes the standard of football in scotland is poor and has dropped alot in the last few years but a freak result like that between a league team and a team that is nothing more than a pub team but is registered with the SFA is in no way indicative of the standard of football

you have to remember that population wise the whole of scotland has about half as many people as london alone

the dominance of celtic and rangers has been bad for the game in alot of ways as supporters of other teams do get disillusioned knowing that they have no chance of winning anything other than maybe a cup every 20 years or so.

i'm from a town called dunfermline and when i was growing up more people from the town travelled to watch rangers or celtic than attended dunfermline matches. dunfermline has a population of around 60,000 people but is trying to support a top flight football team in tough economic times so of course they are going to be playing to a lower standard. the success of celtic and rangers and the pull they have has meant scottish football has had higher expectations as a whole than it realistically should ever have had.

but it does annoy me when idiots laugh about it when they dont have a clue what they are talking about , and should i add an obligatory "lol" here

10 point deduction will just hand the title to Celtic a bit earlier than usual.
