Nothing left to learn, the England players aren't good enough, they don't really care whether they qualify or not, and probably 90% of English followers now feel the same.

The fans have made the choice, they want a strong premier league, not a strong national side. Years of watching England fail at tournaments has made that choice very easy.

Saw our u17s thrash Chile 4-0 a couple of days ago.

Played brilliantly. If only our seniors could play like that. It wasn't just the result it was the style of play. Sadly quite a few of those lads will never play at the top level...and those who do will have the skill knocked out of them by then.

Whilst the United Kingdom of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland make the playoffs.

Once upon a time at Liverpool's academy, I saw the Welsh FA advertise for non Welsh born youth team players but have Welsh heritage or educated in Wales to play for the national team. Poaching players who have learned their trade with English clubs to play for other national teams should be banned.

Sat in my Swedish classroom today watching Australia vs Syria on mobile phone. Our class has 7 syrians in it, and one Aussie. Good bit of banter going on in Swedish with the poor teacher not knowing what was going on.

Any way, thank god for Tim Cahil. Who are the Australian players coming through.........

Thats last free kick was oh so close.

Can not see Australia getting any further than this, unless they somehow unearth some talent.

4th place i believe. So it will either be USA, Panama or Honduras.

But i think if any of those teams watched these 2 matches then they will not be to worried if they have to play Australia.

Looking at it, its almost certainly USA (they play Trinidad, who have lost 8 out of 9 games so far, a draw would do it seems)......

Tough game going there.

So Argentina need a win to get a play off place, though a draw may be enough. With Portugal not guaranteed a place, we could have the two best players of the last so many years, not in Russia, but I do hope they both get there.

Yep, 4th from Nth/Central America (it still bemuses me how Central is differentiated from Nth). The commentators were speaking of Panama being the most likely - but I haven't looked. I have no idea of Panama's strengths, but I can imagine the US giving Aus a bit of a touch up.

Half the width of the goal post is what has allowed the Aus campaign to continue past last night.

Mexico and Costa Rica have already qualified from Concacaf. USA should finish third and get the last automatic qualifier. Fourth will be either Panama or Honduras.

Honduras play thuggish football, like Uruguay, but with less skills. Panama are a cross between Honduras and Costa Rica, more skilful than Honduras but less talented than Costa Rica.

Portugal and France qualify. The Dutch are spectators once more.
