This discussion just proves how as a population, we have been conditioned into having some sympathy for somebody who starts an act of violence. Why. Forget the law, because the law is an ass and has the main purpose of making lots of money for those participating in it. Occasionally it serves the purpose of doing the right thing in a dispute, but not so often. I don't like footballers at all, but in this case I support the keeper 100%, in that if the bloke with the dodgy trousers shouldn't have been there and in doing what he did, forfeited his right to protection. So what if the goalie lost it a bit. I'd be pretty angry myself if some random scumbag came up to me and started giving grief, and if I'd over-reacted then as far as I'm concerned hard lines. Unfortunately he will probably be punished by the ass-of-the-law.

On another note, what a brilliant piece of organisation that the goalie and the ref were wearing identically coloured shirts.

Yh peter...like i said yesterday, he shouldnt have done it, but the fan started the violence. He grabbed the keeper, and so the keeper protected himself, he wasnt just gonna take it was he..

the purpose of the law is to protect the rich and privileged from the plebs... the great unwashed, as it were.

you are quite correct about the law leading to the right thing being done, once in a while, but that is more by way of a happy accident.... it isn't it's main job.
