Random footie

The beautiful game!

The attack on Grealish could have been so much worse. If that heymaker landed onto the back of the head, it could have been so much more serious.

Shocking scenes.

Guess who scored the winner.

A goal that had everyone cheering no doubt! What a hero, to pick himself up and play on without moaning, then smashing the winner in.

Got to say Jack did handle it all very well. And element of class from a player who has been criticized for a few things in the past. :salute

The Birmingham fans cheering the attacker as he left the field was not a good look.

I would expect some pretty big repercussions from this.

This happened at Bristol City - Swansea at Ashton Gate which I was at last month. Fans were fighting in the park by the ground after the game.

As has already mentioned, pitch invasions seem to be in the ascendancy.

Doesn't surprise me if those trouble causers are under the influence of drugs and are only there for a jolly boys outing.

Plenty of suggestions of playing games behind closed doors, point deductions and metal fences erected pitchside to eliminate trouble. A more simple approach is restrict ticket sales to season ticket holders only for "high risk" matches. Visiting fans must collect their tickets on the day with season ticket or bank card as proof of purchase to prevent match tickets going to the wrong hands.

not often that the speed of the law impresses me, but it has today. Barely 24 hours after throwing a punch at Grealish, this nutter was starting a 14 week jail sentence.

Racism chanting again at an Italian game.

Moise Kean gets abuse for celebrating a goal and then Cagliari president and a team mate blames the victim for inciting such chants.

I watched this game last night, and I just wonder whether or not there is an element of his colleagues/opposition Chairman's words being lost in translation a little, or that what they have said has been slightly taken out of context. As a prime example, I wrote a response to this post and deleted it because the wording made it sound like I was doing the same thing, and it could be taken in the context of trying to say "Kean's conduct contributed to it". That wasnt my intention, but thats what it sounds like. You have a clear situation where the player has acted like a prat v a situation where the same player is also a victim of something horrible..... do you ignore the first, because of the second? If you try to explain the first, it sounds like an excuse for the second. I am certainly struggling to post something that doesnt sound apologetic to moronic racists, while at the same time highlighting the issue the player brought to this game.

Kean acted very questionably in this game. He spent the first half diving around at every opportunity, and was eventually booked for it. Contrary to reports that Cagliari fans targeted him with booing all game because of who he is, it started because he kept on trying to cheat. After he was booked, he was involved in an off the ball incident where he pushed a defender. He should have been sent off. He then, again after being booked, ran to the home crowd after scoring to celebrate infront of them, and clearly to incite them. He should once again have been sent off.

Ignoring the primary issue for one moment, is it right that his team-mates and opposition after the game question his behaviour in the match; yes, undoubtedly. He is a mega talented teenager who needs to cut this sort of nonsense out of his game if he wants to make it at the top level. He was lucky to stay on the field. It needed to be said, for his own development in the game, and to change his attitude if this match is indicative.

Does any of this excuse racism? Absolutely not. There are two issues here. The player could have kung fu kicked the opposition manager into a coma, but it still doesnt excuse racist chanting. That is frankly not acceptable, and in this regard, I feel for him. Did he bring it on himself? It doesnt matter. No excuse for the Cagliari fans to act that way. Were his actions questionable in celebrating like that, yes.... and they should be called out.
