United 2-0 down against Madrid.

Fellani and Matic are both on the pitch. Im guessing this is the tallest team United has ever put out. The Jose way.

should have been 2-2 but Rashford didn't finish it off but overall it's fair to say we are still some way off the likes of Real

not sure why Bailly didn't start - maybe injured? Also, I wouldn't be picking Lingard ahead of Martial or Rashford at this point, we seemed better once Rashford was on the pitch

Bailly was banned.

That Rashford miss was really poor, especially as Navas' positioning in goal meant that he'd left a huge gap at his near post.

Only saw the last fifteen minutes, but Pogba still looks poor. All that dosh on show and still a long way from being a well oiled team.

From the bits I got to see. You can see why Madrid want De gea so badly.

I think United will grind results out, but they are not going to be great to watch. A lot of people have them favourites to win the league, im not so sure they will be challenging.

All that money spent on a team to grind out results, the locals won't be happy.

Actually the locals will be happy, they're Man City supporters!

Was the drinks breaks included because it was exceptionally hot last night or is this a regular thing now for European games?

It is a lot of money spent to play a particualr style of football. United have spent another 150million this summer, so far. They have managed to get some big earners off the books though. The bits i watched Valencia seemed to be getting further up the pitch. I guess getting Matic might well free up some players to get forward more?

I believe the extra breaks was down to potential heat problems. But got to think it was also a way to check if it could be a way to sneak in some more advertising.......

Utd have the players to entertain, but will Jose let them?

Must be a little tough for the United supporters after the Fergie era. A couple of games last year i thought untited were starting to open up, but they went back to that pragmatic football.

For me its just not as enjoyable to watch United now.

Manchester United pre-Jose were a rotten team who had been the victim of a succession of "meh" transfers, lack of investment in comparison to those around, and a lot of washed up people past their best. Who out of the team at the start of last year would play regularly for a top 4 side? Herrera would be a squad player, Smalling might have started in a team or two, but more likely a squad player. Mata is no Hazard/Silva/Ozil/Sanchez/Coutinho. Their best asset was their keeper. After that everyone in the squad was middle table quality at best, save for two teenagers in Martial and Rashford.

Its hardly a line up that is going to go to a team who spent 200 million in the summer and play total football. He brought in a string of encouraging players now, maybe 1 or 2 away from the title still, but hes brought in quality players that should do damage.

Id expect them to open up a lot this year. Mourinho is often criticised and boxed as a negative manager, but his Real team that won the league were as all out attack as any you will ever see. Didnt they score well over a 100 league goals?

Give him the attacking quality, I am sure they will play positively.

United have even more tall players now, expected the ball to stay in the air a long time.
