Looks like he is destined to go though. Great defender, embodies by his win at all costs attitude. Bit of a tosser though.

Never rated him as a CB. If he'd played for another club, one that didnt always have the referee on their side, he might have been sent off more than the 30 times he has.

As a RB, he was world class..... but never thought he was any good at cb

It was a pretty odd move changing one of the worlds best RBs to CB. Can't remember which Madrid manager was responsible. I guess it's easy to look good at CB in la Liga when Ronaldo is banging in 40 goals a season.

When Cannavaro left Madrid, he started filling in for him at CB because they were very light. Then when Mourinho went after the 2012 Euros (when Puyol finished with the national team) he took over at CB more permanently, and Puyol's retirement gave him the national team slot too. In fact, when people say Ramos is world class, Id say look at the two names he replaced in his domestic team and national team...... not fit to lace Cannavero's boots, and not as good as Puyol.

I think personally, since Vincent Kompany declined, there isnt really any truly brilliant CBs around. Ramos being so revered is all the proof you need. In 2002 he'd have been England's 7th best cb...... Van Dijk is probably the best around, and I doubt even he would have made a top 4 line up 15 years ago.

In fact, its one of the parts of the game I dont really get now. Teams love to play the ball out from the back, and modern day defenders maybe able to pass, but they are terrible at actually defending in comparison. I wonder sometimes, is it really more efficient? You see so many defenders make minor mistakes trying to be risky...... I think personally if you were to study the numbers, you might find teams concede less chances hoofing the ball out into zones that arent dangerous, than retaining 50% more ball in their own final third, but each mistake being punished with far greater consistency.

Id love to see a team with 2 old fashioned tough nut CBs. Id think a modern day striker wouldnt know what to do against them.

Mentions of Cannavaro always make me think.....

Italy once had a back 5 of Buffon, Nesta, Maldini, Cannavaro and Costacurta.....

The Berlin Wall was easier to break down

It was the same era that England had Campbell, Terry, Ferdinand, Carragher..... now it's Harry Maguire and Stones. In terms of pure defending it's insane how different it is

Ramos is a dreadful CB, always gets caught out, foul mouthed, dirty tackler and in general an arse!

Dreadful is harsh. He's definitely one of those 'I'd rather have him on my side than not' types of player.

Norway's Under 20 world cup team put 12 goals passed Honduras last night!

Remember the Leeds player A.Inge Haaland? His son scored 9 of the goals....NINE!

Mesut Ozil either has no real friends or likes hanging out with dictators, otherwise I can not think of another reason why you would have Erdogan as your best man at your wedding.

Belgium put away as many goals as the average Scots fan in Brussels drank in kegs tonight. Although being Scottish, they then didn't throw their glasses at the passing public
